In addition to being launched in the fall, iPad Pro is also rumored to be upgraded to M2 chip

Apple Silicon demonstrates an astonishing performance-to-power consumption ratio on the M1 series. Many people are looking forward to when Apple will launch the M2 chip to iterate the existing iPad and Macbook product lines. Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman believes that a new iPad Pro will be launched this fall and will use a new SoC chip to enhance performance. As a result, perhaps within this year we will see Apple reveal the performance of the M2 chip on new models.

It’s been more than a year since the iPad Pro was launched, and it’s almost time for something new to debut.

We already know that there are many models of M1 chips, but the models used in mobile devices such as iPad or Macbook product lines are still mainly M1 and M1 Pro. In particular, the iPad mainly uses only M1 chips, such as the M1 version of the iPad Air released at the Peek Performance special event a while ago. Considering that all major iPad models have been updated to the M1 chip, there is a high chance that Apple will update high-end tablets. Perhaps we can then look forward to the performance of the new chip when it is released.

M2 iPad Pro may be coming soon, but its performance is still unknown

Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman on his Power On Columnanalyzed the future development trends of many Apple products and services. He believed that Apple will launch a new high-end tablet model, namely iPad Pro, within this year. Generally speaking, new iPad Pro models are launched every 14 to 16 months. The M1 version of iPad Pro was released in April 2021, so it stands to reason that we will see the release of the new iPad Pro in the summer and autumn of this year.

iPad Pro is known for its professional and productivity image, and it can achieve greater effectiveness when paired with designated peripherals.

Since new models will be released when the time comes, it is only a matter of course to replace them with stronger chips to convince consumers to pay. Mark Gurman has previously predicted this, and believes that almost all Apple products will be transitioned to the new Apple Silicon chip by the end of 2022. Judging from the current situation, Apple is iteratively updating in full accordance with the scheduled plan. Therefore, it must not be too surprising for us to see the release of Apple’s new chip in the second half of this year.

Although the current iPad Pro has been released for a while, its specifications can still be said to be superior to its other products. Even against the Macbook army, it is not inferior. The machine is currently equipped with 5G network connectivity and Thunderbolt 3 connection. While the performance is improved, the battery life can still be maintained at about 10 hours. The performance can be said to be fully worthy of the reputation of flagship, or even worse.

Of course, in addition to the predictable performance upgrades, there is even a chance to see the debut of new Apple Silicon chips, which I believe many users are looking forward to. But the current rumors about the new iPad Pro are far more than that. Some people think that the opportunity will be added to the Magsafe function in the future, and some think that a glass back cover will be added, and even miniLED backlights will be added to all products. Although these claims have not yet had a chance to be verified, they still have a certain degree of credibility.

Everything about M2 is even more mysterious at present. Even according to Apple’s naming convention, it is possible that the new chip may not be called M2. However, some people still predict some specifications of the chip. For example, in terms of performance positioning, the goal of M2 is only to be faster than M1, but it does not mean that M2 will be faster than M1 Pro/Max. The design of M2 may also be similar to M1, which can use UltraFusion technology to package two or more chips together to form a super large core.

M1 Ultra has shown everyone how Apple can maximize the benefits of its own chips, and the next M2 may follow suit.

Previously, some users found information about the suspected M2 chip specifications in the code of macOS Monterey 12.3 beta. It is speculated that the M2 will also have an 8-core design, but the GPU will have 9 or 10 cores depending on the model. But M2 has not yet reached the stage of debut, and it is too early to talk about this at present.
