Both TikTok and users create filters for everyone to use, and for some teenagers who struggle with appearance anxiety and declining self-esteem, these filters make them feel compelled to maintain a carefully groomed appearance because they believe their real faces are ugly without filters. As beauty filters began to impact teenagers, TikTok decided to restrict beauty filters for underage users.
Filters like Bold Glamour that alter a child’s facial features or cannot be achieved with makeup will be restricted. However, filters that add rabbit ears or dog noses to a face or head will not be restricted, and underage users will still be able to use them.
