The new version of Chrome actually overtakes Safari on Mac (crazy)

In terms of common myths in recent years, most people think that Chrome is memory hungry and not particularly fast. But because of the support and integration with Google services, most people would joke that the original browser of each system can only be used as a Chrome downloader (even because the native browser is very fast to use). But now it seems that Google is also planning to break this myth this year, at least… in the macOS version, they seem to have overtaken the performance of the original Safari browser in terms of speed and performance. Continue reading the text of the (crazy) report that the new version of Chrome actually overtakes Safari on Mac.

The new version of Chrome actually overtakes Safari on Mac (crazy)

although Chrome is Bad web pagesStill standing (i.e. the doubts posed by Keystone are still not fully resolved). However, for people who are used to the Google ecosystem or even have to use this browser, Chrome is still quite necessary. It would also be nice to see Google make its signature browser faster – or use as little RAM as possible (yikes).

When the official version of the Chrome browser was pushed to version M99, there were many functional and performance improvements. However, what the Google development team did not mention is that this time Chrome is not only fast but also has reached a new milestone. To put it simply, its speed exceeds even Apple’s original browser on Mac.

This is really not simple. After all, theoretically speaking, the system default browser is because it is completely built with the own WebKit used by the system. It is really difficult for third-party applications to surpass the original browser in terms of speed performance.

However, Google not only found a secret to improve the speed of the browser on macOS system, but also achieved a running score that surpassed Safari on Apple’s own Speedometer (!). According to data published by Chromium Blog, Chrome M99 measured a total score of 300, surpassing the existing Safari version by 7%; Google’s test for graphics processing performance opened up a larger gap of 15%.

This testing was also done on an M1 Mac. Chrome engineer Max Christoff shared on his blog that in fact, since Chrome started providing the M1 SoC version in 2020, it has spent 17 months optimizing to achieve a 43% performance improvement. The key to improving performance is the introduction of ThinLTO technology in the M99 version. The V8 Sparkplug compiler and short builtin calls are also key to overtaking Safari’s speed performance.

Google also said that they are not slacking off on their own Android system. The latest achievement is to reduce page reading speed by 15%; last year, through technologies such as Freeze-Dried Tabs, startup speed was also increased by 13%.
