In August this year, Elon Musk’s generative AI company xAI launched a more powerful reasoning Grok-2 and Grok-2 mini betaallowing users to generate images from text on X. Since then, xAI has continued to train Grok, hoping for greater progress. But now, Grok seems to have become somewhat dangerous. Recently, the xAI team revealed that they discovered Grok-3 has proven the famous unsolved mystery in mathematics, the Riemann Hypothesis. xAI has not yet disclosed exactly how Grok-3 managed to prove the Riemann Hypothesis, and they are currently verifying whether it is true. xAI stated that if it turns out to be true, they will stop training Grok-3, because an AI this intelligent could pose a threat to humanity.

Has a century-old mathematical problem been cracked? Musk’s Grok-3 AI appears to have successfully proven the Riemann Hypothesis.

@hyhieu226, a team member at Elon Musk’s generative AI company xAI, stated today that because Grok-3 successfully proved the Riemann Hypothesis during its training process, xAI has decided to pause Grok-3’s training and check whether Grok-3’s proof of the Riemann Hypothesis is correct. If the proof is verified as correct, xAI will not resume Grok-3’s training, as such an AI would be considered too intelligent and might make humans feel threatened.

Grok-3 just proved Riemann’s hypothesis. We decided to pause its training to check its proof, and if the proof is correct, training won’t be resumed, as the AI is deemed so smart that it becomes a danger to humanity.

What is the Riemann Hypothesis?

Riemann Hypothesis The Riemann hypothesis was proposed by the German mathematician Bernhard Riemann in 1859, and has for many years been an important and famous unsolved problem in mathematics. The Riemann hypothesis proposes…The real part of the non-trivial zeros of the Riemann zeta function is{\displaystyle {\frac {1}{2}}},that is, all non-trivial zeros should lie on the line{\displaystyle {\frac {1}{2}}+it}(on the “critical line”). (Source:Wikipedia)Many outstanding mathematicians have racked their brains trying to prove the Riemann Hypothesis, but so far none has actually proved it.Watch the video below for a more detailed introduction to the Riemann Hypothesis:

If you don’t want to watch the video, xAI team members also recommend reading the novel The Humans:

Alright, Saturday Night Life is over.

As for why a proof to Riemann’s hypothesis is dangerous, I highly recommend @matthaig1‘s wonderful novel: The Humans.https://t.co/NBF80AJEJ1 https://t.co/qmb328ytW9

The announcement from the xAI team has sparked discussion, with some saying that Grok-3 proving the Riemann Hypothesis is just a joke—and that joke has now caused a sensation.

Some people also think that the claim that Grok-3 proved the Riemann Hypothesis is fake, just a tactic by xAI to attract attention, and that it may never have happened at all.

It’s really hard to believe from just a sentence or two that Grok-3 actually proved the Riemann hypothesis, and the xAI team also said that even if the verification is correct, they won’t publish it, leaving everyone unable to know the truth. What do you all think—has the Riemann hypothesis, which no mathematician has proven in nearly 165 years, really been proven by Grok-3, or is this just a marketing stunt and groundwork by xAI for the upcoming release of Grok-3?
