With the official announcement of the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, many of the previously rumored details have been gradually confirmed – and sometimes confirmed not to be the case. For example, there were rumors that Google will provide cross-version update support for the Android system for up to 4 years. Now it seems that although in terms of security updates, the extension of Pixel 6 to 5 years is still worthy of encouragement. However, many users who support Pixel phones are looking forward to more Android system version updates. At present, it seems that there are not many changes.
According to the news announced by Google on the Pixel Phone help page, the time when Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro “are no longer guaranteed to receive Android version updates after the following time points” is marked in October 2024. That is, like previous Pixel models, they still maintain a 3-year guaranteed version update. There is no change because it is equipped with its own chip.
Although this is only a “guaranteed” provision, it does not mean that there will be no exceptions in the future. But at least for now, it’s basically no problem that the Pixel 6 series can at least use Android 15 – and then it will be guaranteed to continue to receive security updates until 2026. At the very least, we’re seeing security updates extended this year from the original 4 years to 5 years.
