Elon Musk’s generative AI Grok today launched beta versions of Grok-2 and Grok-2 mini with stronger reasoning capabilities. The new Grok AI models can now provide text-to-image generation services on X. The text-to-image feature, like Grok’s unrestricted nature, can generate anything—no limitations on prompts containing sensitive content. Now, users with X Premium and Premium+ can experience the text-to-image feature of Musk’s generative AI Grok. Just enable Grok on X, and whether in “Fun Mode” or “Normal Mode,” you can use the text-to-image feature. Inputting prompts in Chinese works too!
What’s distinctive about Grok’s text-to-image generation feature is that Grok has no concerns about “politics,” “diversity,” or “celebrity likeness,” so it won’t restrict what you want to generate. After testing, things related to celebrities, politics, war, and so on are all fine, unlike Meta、Google Image generation also has a bunch of restrictions. However, there may still be limits when it comes to explicit content, because even when entering prompts with full nudity, Grok didn’t actually generate fully nude images.
Currently, X and Musk have not explained which specific large model Grok uses to generate images, but according to information from netizens, Grok appears to be using Black Forest Labs’ text-to-image model FLUX.1, which has recently gone viral online, to create images.

Grok’s text-to-image feature has no restrictions whatsoever, allowing users to freely create whatever image content they want. However, without any limits in place, Grok could easily become a tool for generating false information on X and other platforms. It’s currently unclear whether images generated by Grok contain any embedded metadata indicating they were AI-generated. If they don’t, Grok’s text-to-image tool could very likely become a weapon for criminal activity.
