Before the launch of some new features, the YouTube team will prioritize them for a limited time and provide them to YouTube Premium members for early trial use, and will also collect user feedback. Earlier, YouTube launched a new experimental feature, and two new test features, “iOS picture-in-picture” and “translated messages”, are open for trial. As long as you are a YouTube Premium member, you can directly experience it first from now until the specified period!
Picture-in-picture function for iOS devices (Applicable: iOS system, end date: October 31)
The first is the picture-in-picture (PiP) feature that was previously announced for iOS users. This feature is finally available on YouTube’s official iOS app. As long as Premium members click “Apply now” on the trial page. The current trial of YouTube’s picture-in-picture feature for iOS devices will end on October 31, 2021.
After clicking Try Now, the bottom of the window will display “You will soon be able to support the picture-in-picture function of iOS devices”, and you can use the YouTube App’s mini player to watch YouTube videos on your iOS device.
After turning on the picture-in-picture function, if the user returns to the iOS home screen or switches to another page while playing a video on the YouTube App, the mini player will automatically open to continue playing the video in picture-in-picture mode.
The actual effect is referenced below. The picture-in-picture screen can also adjust the display size and position of the player, and even hide the player to the sidebar.
The video will continue to play regardless of switching between screens. However, if the user locks the screen during playback, video playback will be temporarily stopped.
Translate message (Applicable: iOS/Android system, end date: September 9)

Now YouTube also offers a trial of the “translate comments” function! The translation message function is trialled on iOS and Android dual-system mobile devices. Please be sure to update the YouTube App to the latest version. The current YouTube Translate Comments trial will end on September 9, 2021.
YouTube Premium members can start experiencing this new feature on their mobile devices by clicking “Try Now.”
Since only one trial function can be tried at a time, if there are other trial functions, you must choose one to use.
After the trial is started, a notification about the upcoming trial will also be displayed at the bottom of the window.
After turning on the “Translate Message” function, if you see a message in a language that is not currently set by the system, you can tap the “Translate” button of the message to view the translation result of the message. The user can also tap “View Original” at any time to display the message in the original language.
Actual testing found that in addition to English, languages such as Korean can also be translated. Of course, the smoothness of the sentence will also depend on the grammar of the original text. If it is some Internet terms or homophones, you may encounter situations where the semantic meaning cannot be understood after the translation.
