Previously, we introduced a tool that can identify which anime a single screenshot comes from. trace.moeAlthough it is very powerful, I honestly think the interface isn’t very user-friendly, so this post recommends another tool, ‘SauceKudasai’. Based on trace.moe and the Anilist API, it can find whatever trace.moe can, and the interface is super clean and easy to use—plus, it’s open source.

SauceKudasai lets you find anime info and the exact episode a scene is from with just one image, using two major anime databases.

  • Trial SauceKudasai

SauceKudasai also allows you to upload images or paste a URL directly to search. What sets it apart from trace.moe is that not only does it tell you which anime and which episode the image is from, but it also applies your uploaded or linked image directly onto the corresponding video clip, which is really nice for quickly verifying if it’s the one you’re looking for.

If the data it provides is wrong, the images will only become static images, not video clips.

Click the link above to go to SauceKudasai, then press the browse icon to upload an image, or click the link icon and paste the image URL:

The link icon will become like this, showing “Paste your url”, paste the image URL into the box:

Then a preview will appear so you can check if it’s correct. If everything looks good, click Search to start searching:

As expected of the trace.moe API, it correctly identified the anime from the image URL I pasted. It’s indeed Tokyo Revengers, and the scene appears in EP13 at 11:42. Absolutely incredible—it even pinpoints the exact timestamp. Click “More info” below to look up more anime-related information.

Opening the Anilist website, aside from having anime synopses, you can also find what characters are in it, who voices them, where to watch them, related anime, and so on:

I also tested another one and it was accurately found as well, and it also tells you which episode and at what time point:

However, if it’s a relatively niche or local anime, it might not be found. I once tested a local anime, and the result that came up was Dragon Ball information, and the image didn’t turn into a video clip either. So looking at this, you can basically confirm that the information provided is wrong.

Additionally, this website was made by other developers, so compared to trace.moe, it may be less stable. If your search doesn’t find anything or it feels off, it’s still recommended to use trace.moe. trace.moe。

But it could also be that trace.moe simply doesn’t have information on this anime. As they mention on their webpage, if you can’t find the anime, here are the possible reasons:

  1. Your image is not a screenshot from the original anime.
  2. This animation has not yet been added to the database.
  3. Your image has been modified.

Regarding the first point, trace.moe also recommends two websites you can try: SauceNAO and iqdb.org.
