They found that they could replace the factory default sharing UI like a custom launcher to better meet user customization needs. But this feature suddenly became unavailable on Android 12. At first, they thought it was a bug and chose to report it to Google. However, they received a reply saying, “In fact, we never intended to allow apps to replace the sharing menu.”

In short, the sharing menu of all applications in the new system will use the system’s default theme. Google also stated that since functions such as Direct Share will no longer be available in the third-party Sharesheet interface of the Android system, it is becoming increasingly impossible to create a third-party sharing menu that replaces the original factory – after all, the functions cannot be compared (although it feels that this matter is officially said to be a bit cruel to developers).
At this stage, it is uncertain whether such a restrictive policy will also include mobile phone brands such as Sony that can still provide customization flexibility. But for ordinary developers such as Sharedr, now it has become a small App shortcut in the original sharing menu, providing richer and more attractive functions as much as possible, in order to remain competitive with one more jump step – it always feels like there is a lot of danger…
That is to say, everyone’s impression of Android has always been that it has a relatively high degree of freedom. However, compared with Apple’s current iOS, it seems that the custom sharing menu is not as strict as Android 12. I don’t know if there is any unavoidable reason for this?
