Even though AI is still in its early stages of development, its capabilities have become increasingly impressive. I recently discovered this amazing free tool called “Nero AI Face Animation” that can instantly transform a static face in a photo into a dynamic one. And it looks quite natural—the eyes blink, the face moves, and the expressions change. Besides being fun, if you’re missing someone who has passed away and don’t have any moving images of them, you can use this AI tool to create one with just one click.
Nero AI Face Animation can animate faces in photos with incredibly natural results
AI Face Animation is a free online tool by Nero AI. After clicking the link above to access the website, you can upload static photos you want to animate. Some free images are also provided for you to try:
After uploading the photo, it will automatically detect the face position. This part cannot be manually adjusted, but it was quite accurate in my tests. If you happen to encounter a detection error and cannot modify the position, you can only try a different photo or shrink the photo so that the face takes up more of the frame. If everything looks good, click “Start” on the right:
This will take a few seconds, mine took about 10-20 seconds:
You can preview the effect, and if you like it, just click download on the right to save it. Unfortunately, it automatically crops to keep only the face portion — probably because keeping the full image would result in worse effects, or maybe only paid users can keep the entire picture.
Every time the result turns out differently. Like below is what I made the first time—A-Da’s head not only has head movements and blinking, but also pursed lips revealing teeth. Ignoring the hair, I have to say the effect is pretty natural, like it feels like an actual selfie video of A-Da.
Next, for the second attempt, we didn’t have the pursed lips showing teeth. So if you’re not satisfied with the result after finishing, you can redo it until you’re happy with it.
The facial expression already looks very natural, it’s just that the hair placement has a pretty obvious flaw.
Besides animating faces in photos, Nero also offers other AI tools, such as automatically colorizing black-and-white photos, restoring old photos (removing scratches, improving colors, and sharpening), an Avatar Generator tool, and upscaling photos.
