Android Auto officially opens support for three-party navigation!

Although our Google Maps is really useful, many friends who use Android Auto cars will probably continue to stick to the original map application for navigation. However, sometimes you still want to try more feature-rich third-party applications – especially in Taiwan where rights of way and traffic planning are quite confusing. It has been previously announced that Android Auto, Google’s home car system, will open more types of third-party applications in addition to messaging and multimedia (actually music) applications. Today it also announced that it will officially open application types including navigation, charging stations and parking for car and motorcycle driving. If you have used Android Auto, you will find that the openness of the application types of this car system platform seems to be a bit inferior to Apple CarPlay on the other side. The most puzzling thing among them is that many useful three-party navigation applications are only available to the Apple system, which was considered relatively closed in the past – I saw the support page of Navigation King, which is very popular among Taiwanese, and wrote that the reason for not supporting Android Auto is that “three-party navigation applications are not yet supported”… However, this situation has been improved from the system side, unlocking the possibility of using three-party navigation.

Although the example navigation king mentioned in this article has not yet announced support for this, the first batch of applications that support Android Auto Play Store already include Sygic Navigation and Chargepoint. In the previous announcement that it would be open, the applications that were provided for testing have been confirmed – so I believe that other third-party applications should be soon.

As one of the first three-party navigation applications to be announced, Sygic, which supports offline use, also announced in a video that it can be used on Android Auto starting today. Just based on the editor’s test, through the recommended applications on Android Auto, you can only see the previous application categories (really very few). Therefore, before the Play Store is officially updated, you may still have to do your own homework to determine whether your favorite apps have AA support.
