Seagate’s IronWolf series is mainly aimed at NAS-specific storage devices. Due to cost considerations, HDD interfaces have traditionally been used. However, the product we are going to unbox today is the 4TB SSD of the Seagate IronWolf 125 series. Compared with the IronWolf 110 launched last year, this new IronWolf 125 can actually be divided into IronWolf 125 and IronWolf Pro 125. In fact, it mainly combines IronWolf The features of the 110 series are divided into two. The IronWolf 125 has a slightly lower TBW (lifetime) and MTBF (reliability), while the IronWolf Pro 125 inherits the advantages of the IronWolf 110 and has improvements in small-scale reading and writing (faster) and power supply (only 5V can drive), giving consumers more choices.

Seagate IronWolf 125 4TB SSD unboxing

The IronWolf 125 4TB SSD has a domineering IronWolf pattern on the outer packaging.
07

The packaging is also packaged in static bags, which is very careful.
08

After tearing open the package, you can see the large IronWolf LOGO on the front.
09

The back is related information. The biggest difference between IronWolf 125 and IronWolf 110 is the difference in power supply. IronWolf 125 changes back to the general 5V power supply of SSD, making it more convenient for external use.

Seagate IronWolf 125 4TB SSD performance test

IronWolf 125 4TB SSD belongs to the new IronWolf 125 series. In terms of capacity configuration, it is actually closer to hard drive users. Compared with the maximum capacity of 3.84TB of IronWolf 110 and IronWolf Pro 125, the maximum capacity of IronWolf 125 is the 4TB version we are going to test today. However, due to the price positioning, the IronWolf 125 4TB is more acceptable to the general public. The SSD has a MTBF of 5,600 TBW and 1,800,000hr. Compared to the more expensive IronWolf 125 Pro 3.84TB SSD, it has a MTBF of 7,000 TBW and 2,000,000hr.
19

First you can see that the actual usable capacity is 3.63 TB. (different conversion formats)
20

The biggest change of the IronWolf 125 series is that the power supply is changed to the original 5V for driving. Therefore, it can be driven directly through an external hard disk box, which makes it very convenient to use. Especially when SATA SSD external hard disk boxes are currently very cheap, it becomes very practical to pair it with a super-large-capacity external SSD.
21

Next, let’s actually test the transmission speed. First, we use CrystalDiskMark to perform a read and write test. The actual test read and write speeds are 558.72 MB/s and 539.2 MB/s respectively.
22

Then use ATTO Disk Benchmark for reading and writing tests. The maximum reading and writing speeds are 559.7 MB/s and 540.4 MB/s respectively.
23

Because it is an SSD, we also used the AS SSD Benchmark for the final test. The read and write speeds were 523.98 MB/s and 508.28 MB/s respectively, with a score of 1231.
24

For ordinary file transfers, when we move files from the desktop to the SSD, the actual writing speed will be very fast initially due to caching, but after stabilization the speed will be 494 MB/s.
25

When the files are moved from the SSD to the desktop, the actual read speed is 501 MB/s.
26

Original factory support

In addition to high-level hardware performance, the entire Seagate IronWolf series can also activate the exclusive IronWolf Health Management (IHM) protection mechanism on compatible NAS to monitor the NAS directly through charts. Daily data traffic, grasp various conditions, the project includes: data transfer, performance, readability, writability, overall reliability and other related hard disk health status parameters (such as temperature, impact, vibration, connection stability and signal integrity) and provides preventive measures for data protection, making it more secure in use.
27

In addition, IronWolf 125 SSD comes with a 3-year Seagate Rescue data rescue service. You must register on the official website before use. During the warranty period of the rescue plan, when the hard drive is damaged and the data cannot be read, Seagate provides free rescue services and does its best to rescue the data in the hard drive.Customer satisfaction reaches 95%。
28

Summarize

In addition to the five-year warranty of the IronWolf 125 SSD series, the TBW that SSD users are more concerned about has an unimaginable level. Compared with competing products for the same purpose, it has 2 to 3 times the TBW. There is no need to worry about long-term use. With such a high TBW advantage, even if it is used as a NAS cache acceleration, you no longer have to worry about the shortened service life caused by frequent writing. Use it with confidence.
