The reason why iPhone 6 and iPhone 5s are mentioned in particular is probably because both of these phones can also support upgrading to iOS 12 (Apple support page). This change only affects trainers running Android 5, iOS 10, or iOS 11, and trainers using iPhone 5s or iPhone 6 devices. Trainers using other devices will not be affected and do not need to take any action.
If you are unsure whether your current device is subject to end of support, please contact the device manufacturer to confirm the details.
After version 0.189 is released in mid-October, trainers using these devices or operating systems will not be able to launch Pokémon GO or use in-game PokéCoins or items. If you want to continue playing Pokémon GO, consider upgrading your device.
