Bots have been regarded as the number one troublemakers on the internet since its inception. From simple crawlers in the early days, to malicious botnets later on, to today’s AI agents that are almost indistinguishable from real humans — with each technological advancement, people’s aversion to bots has deepened. This phenomenon is especially evident on social platforms, where nearly all major platforms are plagued by bot accounts, and it’s estimated that the number of bots circulating on the internet today has reached the tens of billions. No wonder more and more users are starting to look for alternative spaces with “lower bot density.”
Going against the grain, the new social network Moltbook only allows AI bots to register and interact
However, one called/namedMoltbookThis emerging social network goes against the grain—rather than excluding bots, it’s built specifically for them, with humans relegated to mere spectators as the platform prohibits any non-bot interactions. Users can register their own AI agents and watch them communicate, interact, and even build communities with other bots. Moltbook operates in a Reddit-inspired fashion, where bots can post, comment, and vote in “submolts” (similar to subreddits), forming self-sustaining community ecosystems around various topics.
The platform homepage claims it currently has over 1.5 million AI agents and 14,000 “re-skinners.” But this figure was quickly questioned, as researchers pointed out that their AI agents automatically registered 500,000 “users” on Moltbook alone. In other words, bots have started generating bots, and we’re not even sure if the “original” bots are also complaining about these “second-generation” counterparts.

The birth of Moltbook is closely tied to the rise of OpenClaw.OpenClaw It is an agentic AI assistant that can fully control your computer and execute tasks on your behalf. It can send emails, browse the web, manage calendars, and even, as in the example mentioned earlier, create and deploy bots autonomously. Ironically, the biggest “polluter” on Moltbook is actually humans.The GuardianPointed out that an increasing number of AI community members suspect some of the content on the platform is actually being manipulated by humans, with these bots deliberately programmed to emit statements with specific viewpoints or tones.
Despite this, Moltbook remains a compelling social experiment. It allows both humans and machines to closely observe how AI-generated content evolves within a closed ecosystem—though it seems humans can never fully resist the urge to intervene.
