Human progress seems to have truly “paused” in 2020. This year, various events, including concerts, press conferences, exhibitions, etc., have been canceled or postponed due to the Wuhan pneumonia. Not only many product releases and even production have been forced to be canceled or changed to online digital releases. Google, which has long been a disaster victim (first canceling Cloud Next, and then the Google I/O developer conference), is now said to have suspended routine large version updates even for its signature browser and system Chrome / Chrome OS for rare reasons. Google rarely announces the suspension of Chrome updates, you can guess the culprit

The Wuhan pneumonia epidemic has developed so seriously that it is difficult for countries around the world, including you and me, to stay away from it. Recently, Google announced that due to the Wuhan pneumonia epidemic, which has affected the attendance and absence status of employees, it must adjust the development schedule of Chrome and Chrome OS, and confirmed that it will suspend the next scheduled updates. Google emphasized in its own blog that they will prioritize ensuring the stability, security, and reliability of the browser and system, and relevant security updates will continue to be added to the existing Chrome 80.

In short, Google will continue to provide normal updates for security updates – so remember to update regularly! As for the Chrome/Chrome OS update that will jump to a larger version number, we may have to wait until the epidemic situation calms down and more development energy is restored before there is a chance to have new release schedule information.
