With the launch of the developer preview version, many tested functions of Android 11 have gradually been played by developers. One of the features that was recently discovered, a bit like a “secret trick”, is the Double Tap function, which can summon customized functions such as Google Assistant with two taps. Android 11 new operation secret: double “knock” the back cover twice

That is to say, what is so special about double-clicking something that can be done on a computer? This feature currently being tested in Android 11 actually allows users to quickly tap the back cover of the phone twice to summon the specified function – through 9to5Google’s video demonstration, we can see that he simply tapped the back cover of the Google Pixel phone twice to summon the voice assistant function.

This feature, codenamed Columbus, which is still exclusive to Pixel consoles, is said to be triggered by obtaining a continuous tapping frequency through sensors such as accelerometer or gyroscope. And since it uses a very common motion sensing method in mobile devices, in theory it shouldn’t be too difficult to support it on other brands of mobile phones. In addition, although Google Assistant is activated by default, it can also be customized to activate functions such as the camera.

According to the experience of foreign media, although it can be used with a protective case installed, this function is actually set to require a very high sensitivity to be triggered. In addition, it requires two taps, which I believe can avoid the problem of accidental triggering to a certain extent. In fact, the Sesame Smart Lock, the smart door lock I used previously, has been updated to provide the function of tapping the iPhone twice to trigger the unlocking (of course, the person must be within the Bluetooth range of the door lock). It seems that similar secret techniques may also be available on phones after the Android 11 update in the future.
