Facebook quietly launches new experimental app Hobbi to help organize your interests and ideas

In addition to its existing services and websites, Facebook is also conducting many experimental projects internally. Today, the company quietly launched a latest application “Hobbi” on the APP Store, which is designed to help users record personal projects and preferences. The app is somewhat similar to Pinterest, allowing you to upload pictures of your own crafts, DIY projects, recipes, and other activities.

This new app, launched on the iOS platform by an experimental project group under Facebook (called NPE Team), seems to take cues from the popular Pinterest, but has a broader vision. It hopes to help amateurs organize photos of their projects into themed collections. For example, you can create different themed collections for crafts, recipes, baking, etc. The app is currently only available for download by users in the United States, Colombia, Belgium, Spain and Ukraine.

The difference with other apps also produced by Facebook and Pinterest is that the social function in Hobbi is weak. Essentially, this app can be used to organize personal hobbies and ideas. The only social aspect is the ability to create video highlights to share through other platforms. Also due to the lack of social functions, you cannot stimulate your own inspiration from the content shared by others in the app. This may be more useful for users who want to track their own progress at any time, but it is not helpful for those who want to find new ideas. In a word, this app is suitable for working behind closed doors at this stage.

Although Hobbi sounds good, because it is very similar to Pinterest, which dominates the same type, its evaluation on the APP Store is not very good. Users said that there are already thousands of similar applications, making it ordinary and unsurprising; some users also hope that Facebook will stop copying and do something original. However, the services launched by the NPE Team are very fast and will be shut down once they are found to be of no use to people. It is estimated that we will see the launch of more new experimental projects in the future.
