Rakuten Credit Card has many users both in Japan and Taiwan. Unscrupulous people have spotted this point and are ready to take action. The Japan Anti-Phishing Committee recently issued an announcement. Fraudulent letters disguised as Rakuten Card member notifications have begun to appear, including links to phishing websites. Even if you see a seemingly official letter, you should not only pay attention to the meaning between the lines after opening the letter, but also read carefully before clicking on the hyperlink!

Phishing scams disguised as “Rakuten Credit Card” notification letters appear in Japan, everyone should be careful

Taiwanese are very keen on traveling to Japan and have frequent cultural exchanges with Japan. Therefore, Japanese banks in Taiwan issue various credit cards that offer special discounts for Japanese travel consumption. The phishing technique disclosed recently is named after Rakuten, a company familiar to Taiwanese, and uses the email title “[楽天]ログインしましたか?” (Are you logged in to Rakuten?) to deceive consumers into believing it is an official notification letter.

▲This is the full text of the phishing letter

In this letter, in addition to text-related messages reminding you to confirm your personal user information and whether to log in to the Rakuten website, a series of hyperlinks are also attached below to tell you that you need to log in to check your account information. The website directed by this hyperlink is very similar to the real Rakuten website, and the content that users need to input is also very detailed, including your card number, expiration date, last three digits and various personal privacy information.

The Japan Anti-Phishing Committee reminds everyone that this fake official website is still in operation. If you receive a similar letter, please do not enter any personal information and credit card information. If you have any questions about the credit card in your hand, you can call the customer service hotline on the back of the credit card to ensure that your personal rights and property safety are not damaged.
