whenelectric carGradually maturing, the competition between brands is no longer just about battery life or acceleration figures, but who can truly integrate into daily life. Depend on Sony and Honda Sony Honda Mobility, which was jointly established, officially unveiled its second pure electric vehicle prototype after the first Afeela 1, positioned as the cross-border travel Afeela Prototype 2026.
This car continues the familiar design language, but makes obvious changes in space, technology and usage scenarios, trying to respond to the needs of more families and diverse car uses. From software and hardware integration, driving assistance systems to in-car entertainment experience, Afeela It is no longer just “an electric car”, but wants to become a mobile platform that will continue to evolve. This change also reveals Sony and Honda’s different imaginations of what electric vehicles will look like in the future.

Sony and Honda’s second collaboration model, Afeela Prototype 2026, pure electric crossover SUV unveiled

In the electric vehicle market, the first product is often tasked with “building an image.” It is the second vehicle that truly shows how far the brand wants to go. Sony’s partnership with Honda fits right into this rhythm.
Following the pure electric RV Afeela 1, the two parties launched the CES 2026 The Afeela Prototype 2026 was publicly unveiled. Although this pure electric crossover is still in the prototype stage, it has clearly pointed towards future mass production and is confirmed to be launched in the United States as soon as 2028.

From the appearance point of view, this crossover SUV is not deliberately different from the RV version. The front outline and light style of the car still follow the simple and technological route, and the Afeela family characteristics can be recognized at the first glance.

However, the body height is slightly raised, the overall proportion is closer to that of an SUV, and it is also visually thicker, obviously to meet the larger riding and cargo needs.
This design strategy reflects the brand’s desire to strike a balance between recognition and practicality, rather than reinventing a styling language for the sake of SUV status.

Compared with RVs, crossovers are more suitable for family use and are more in line with North American market preferences. Although Sony Honda Mobility has not announced complete interior details, it has emphasized that this car will continue the core concept of Afeela 1. Through a highly digital cockpit design, the car will become a mobile space for work, entertainment, and rest, rather than just a driver’s seat and a screen.

In terms of technology, Afeela still follows the “software first” route. Afeela 1 is officially defined as more than just an electric car, but as a way to rethink the relationship between people and mobility. This concept also extends to cross-border travel.

The vehicle is equipped with a complete sensing system, including 18 cameras, 1 LiDAR, 9 radars and 12 ultrasonic sensors. It provides advanced driving assistance functions through the Afeela Intelligent Drive system and leaves room for continuous upgrades through software updates in the future.

It is worth noting that Sony’s strengths are not hidden, but instead amplified into product features. The Afeela car series integrates Sony’s entertainment platform and can even play PlayStation 5 directly on the in-car system.
This kind of design seems very topical on the surface, but it is actually testing whether the vehicle can become a new entertainment carrier. For long-distance driving, waiting for charging, or multi-passenger use scenarios, this differentiated experience may be more attractive than simply a little more horsepower.

From the perspective of market layout, Afeela 1 will be first delivered in California at the end of 2026, and will later be expanded to Arizona and the Japanese market. Since opening for bookings in early 2025, the Afeela Studio display space has attracted more than 100,000 visitors, more than 24,000 of whom have actually experienced the in-car displays. Such data shows that even if the price is not low, the market is still highly curious about the electric vehicles jointly built by Sony and Honda.

In terms of price, Afeela 1’s positioning is quite clear. The Signature version starts at $102,900, and the Origin version is $89,900. It is obviously targeted at high-end technology-oriented consumer groups, rather than a large number of popular markets. Although the price of the cross-border travel version of the Afeela Prototype 2026 has not yet been announced, it is speculated that it will remain at a similar level based on its positioning.

Conclusion

From Afeela 1 to Afeela Prototype 2026, it can be seen that Sony and Honda are not eager to prove themselves with price or sales volume, but are trying to establish a set of product logic that is different from traditional car manufacturers. In their eyes, electric vehicles are not just a means of transportation, but a digital platform that can grow over time.
The emergence of cross-border leisure travel means that this concept is gradually expanding from niche technology enthusiasts to usage scenarios closer to daily life. There are still many variables in whether Afeela can truly gain a foothold in the market in the future, but at least what is certain is that this collaboration has successfully shifted the focus of discussion on electric vehicles from the specification sheet to the experience itself. For consumers, such changes may be something truly worth looking forward to.
