The news was announced by Shimrit Ben-Yair, Vice President and General Manager of Google Photos and Google One, who said, “We’re expanding Google AI Pro storage from 2TB to 5TB, and there won’t be any additional charge.”
Simply put, if you are already a Google AI Pro subscriber, your monthly fee stays the same at NT$650, but your available cloud storage gets an extra 3TB, an immediate 150% increase. This 5TB of storage can be used across Gmail, Google Drive, and Google Photos.
However, since the announcement of this upgrade happened to fall on April Fools’ Day, some netizens thought it was a joke, and Shimrit Ben-Yair quickly responded that it was real:

As for why Google is being so generous all of a sudden, the company only said that it knows users need more cloud storage space.
With the explosion of AI-generated content, many people now use images created by Gemini, videos produced by Veo 3, and even music generated by Lyria 3 Pro every day—all of which require storage space. If space runs out, users are forced to delete old files or cut back on AI features, which would actually hinder Google’s efforts to promote its own AI ecosystem.
Therefore, increasing the storage capacity to 5TB lets users confidently use various AI creative tools without worrying about running out of space.
Beyond that, this change also makes Google AI Pro more attractive.
