Sony RX10 V Debuts in Taiwan: Fifth-Generation Ultra-Telephoto Compact with 24-600mm All-in-One Reach

Nine years later, Sony finally unveiled the fifth-generation model in the RX10 series: the Sony RX10 V. Sony Taiwan officially announced today (14th) the introduction of this super-telephoto compact digital camera, featuring the same ZEISS Vario-Sonnar T* 24-600mm F2.4-4.0 large-aperture lens as its predecessor. The processor has been upgraded to the BIONZ XR with integrated AI processing unit, adding AI-based real-time recognition autofocus, burst shooting up to 30 fps with no blackout, and 4K 120p high-frame-rate video recording.

The Fifth-Generation RX10 V Is Officially Here

Since the previous RX10 IV was announced in September 2017, this product line has lain dormant for nine years. In recent years, Sony has shifted its R&D focus to the Alpha full-frame mirrorless system, leaving RX10 users with nothing but waiting. Sony Taiwan announced today (the 14th) the simultaneous launch in Taiwan, with official sales beginning August 7. The suggested retail price for the body is NT$65,980, and pre-orders are open starting today.

Optical specifications: Inheriting the classic 24–600mm large aperture

The RX10 V features a 20.1-megapixel 1.0-inch stacked Exmor RS CMOS sensor, paired with the same ZEISS Vario-Sonnar T* 24–600mm F2.4–4.0 large-aperture lens with 25x optical zoom as the RX10 IV, plus built-in optical image stabilization. The minimum focusing distance is approximately 3 cm at the wide end and approximately 72 cm at the telephoto end, supporting telephoto macro photography to handle both near and far subjects with a single camera.

AI Autofocus & High-Speed Burst: Flagship Alpha Features Made Accessible

The RX10 V debuts a dedicated AI processing unit that supports AI real-time recognition autofocus, capable of accurately identifying people, animals, birds, insects, cars, trains, and airplanes, while also featuring an “Auto mode” that automatically determines subject type. Sony has also ported down the Alpha series’ human pose estimation technology, allowing continuous tracking even when the subject faces away from the camera or their face is obscured by helmets or sunglasses. Users simply tap the screen to select a subject and activate “Real-time Tracking” to focus on composition.

In terms of autofocus and burst shooting performance, the RX10 V supports up to 60 AF/AE calculations per second, 575 autofocus points with 70.6% frame coverage, and delivers high-speed burst shooting of up to 30 fps with no viewfinder blackout with full AF/AE tracking. The newly added “Burst Shooting Acceleration” function allows real-time switching of burst speed during shooting. This system is particularly useful for capturing unpredictable moments in wildlife or sporting events.

Video: 4K 120p and S-Cinetone included

For video, the RX10 V supports up to 4K 120p (with sensor crop), enabling approximately 5x slow-motion 4K recording, with built-in Active Mode image stabilization. In 4K 60p mode, it uses full-pixel readout with 5.4K oversampling without crop for more detailed imagery. Color support includes S-Cinetone and S-Log3, with the ability to import up to 16 user LUTs.

The new Multi Interface (MI) shoe supports the digital audio interface, enabling direct digital audio transmission when paired with a compatible microphone. AI subject recognition also supports Auto Framing, which automatically keeps the subject in the optimal framing position during video recording.

Handling and Battery Life: Inheriting the α Series Design

The body inherits the α series ergonomics, with a redesigned grip and newly added control buttons including AF-ON, multi-selector, and command dials. Combined with a highly responsive multi-function button with eight-directional operation, you can switch focus points and adjust exposure parameters with one hand even when shooting through the viewfinder. The upgraded 0.5-inch Quad-VGA OLED electronic viewfinder offers approximately 3.68 million dots of resolution and 0.78x magnification; the 3-inch tilting LCD screen has also been upgraded to approximately 1.62 million dots, supporting both horizontal and vertical menu displays.

The battery has been upgraded to the NP-FZ100 Z-series high-capacity model, delivering up to approximately 630 still photos on a single charge—over 50% more battery life than the previous generation. The body features dust and moisture resistance, Wi-Fi (2.4/5GHz), USB Type-C high-speed transfer, and up to 4K 30p live streaming capability. It also debuts support for Sony’s exclusive Creators’ App, enabling phone pairing for file transfer, remote control, and firmware updates.

Price and Early Bird Offer

RX10 V will officially launch in Taiwan on August 7, 2026, with a suggested retail price of NT$65,980. Pre-orders are now open. From now until September 27, customers who purchase RX10 V through any channel and complete product registration and questionnaire before October 4 will receive a Sony exclusive camera bag. Those who purchase at Sony Store directly operated locations will additionally receive a Sony photography course voucher, redeemable for one designated course within six months.
