Recently, Opensignal, a leading international mobile network analytics firm, released the “Taiwan Mobile Network Experience Report for December 2025.” Thanks to its technical advantage of having Taiwan’s largest 100MHz 5G “golden bandwidth,” Taiwan Mobile delivered outstanding performance in the video and audio experience category, becoming the industry’s only telecom operator to win both the “Overall Video and Audio Experience” and “5G Video and Audio Experience” titles. The significance of this “double championship” is extraordinary, as it encompasses two scenarios most commonly used by consumers: “viewing experience across all networks (including 4G/5G)” and “viewing experience in a 5G environment.”

Taiwan Mobile Wins Double Championship in Opensignal’s Video and Audio Experience Rankings

According to Opensignal’s measurement data covering the 90-day period from August 1 to October 29, 2025, Taiwan Mobile took the top spot in the “Overall Video Experience” category with a score of 73.2 out of 100. In the “5G Video Experience” category, Taiwan Mobile tied for first place with Far EasTone Telecommunications (77.5 points), both scoring 77.3 points; both operators received a “Very Good” rating. Notably, Taiwan Mobile became the only operator in Taiwan’s telecommunications market to take the top spot in both the overall and 5G video experience categories; this “double victory” highlights its comprehensive strengths in the field of video services.

Opensignal’s video experience assessment is based on International Telecommunication Union (ITU) standards and is measured by streaming videos through real users’ devices. The scoring criteria cover three core metrics: video load time, stuttering rate during playback, and video quality stability. The test videos are sourced from major video platforms and cover a variety of resolutions, including 1080p Full HD and 4K Ultra HD. A “Very Good” rating of 73.2 points indicates that Taiwan Mobile users can smoothly play high-definition videos at 1080p or higher during everyday use, with fast loading speeds and virtually no buffering. This metric not only reflects the traditional streaming video service experience but also encompasses a wide range of currently popular use cases.

From Streaming to AI Video: Diverse Application Scenarios for Taiwan Mobile’s Multimedia Experience

With the evolution of mobile network technology, the definition of the “video and audio experience” has expanded far beyond simply “watching videos without buffering.” Modern consumers’ video and audio needs are becoming increasingly diverse, including:

  • Streaming Video Platform(YouTube, Netflix): Users expect ultra-high-definition content to load quickly, without any loss of quality or interruptions.
  • Short-form video platform(TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts): A seamless viewing experience requires video preloading technology to ensure that users can scroll without waiting and enjoy a seamless transition. This experience relies heavily on network bandwidth and stability.
  • AI Real-Time Video Interaction(e.g., Google Gemini Live): Emerging AI-powered voice and video chat services place extremely high demands on network latency and stability; any delay or stuttering will directly impact the user experience.
  • Video Conferencing and Live Streaming: The growing demand for remote work and content creators requires the internet to provide a high-quality, real-time communication experience that is free of lag, blurriness, and audio dropouts.

An Opensignal report indicates that Taiwan Mobile consistently delivers the industry’s best overall performance across these high-demand, everyday video and audio use cases, reflecting its ability to meet consumers’ diverse multimedia needs through its network infrastructure.

An Analysis of Taiwan Mobile’s Technical Capabilities: 100 MHz of 5G “Golden” Bandwidth + NRCA Integration

Taiwan Mobile’s ability to stand out in the multimedia experience competition is the result of substantial investments in technology and a strategic network deployment plan.

Taiwan’s Largest 5G Premium Bandwidth: Taiwan Mobile holds 60 MHz plus 40 MHz—a total of 100 MHz—of 5G bandwidth in the 3.5 GHz band, the largest allocation among all telecom operators in Taiwan. Wider bandwidth means a broader “data highway” capable of handling more video and audio traffic, ensuring a smooth experience even during peak hours. Taiwan Mobile has already completed the deployment of 100 MHz of bandwidth in over 213 residential, tourist, and commercial hotspots.

NRCA High- and Low-Frequency Integration Technology: Taiwan Mobile uses Carrier Aggregation technology, combining the 3.5 GHz high-frequency band (which provides high speeds) with the 700 MHz low-frequency band (which offers strong penetration), to balance speed and stability. Given that over 75% of mobile traffic in Taiwan occurs indoors, the superior penetration capabilities of the low-frequency band ensure that users experience no lag when making video calls or watching live streams, whether indoors or outdoors.

This combination of technical strategies enables Taiwan Mobile to deliver a high-quality network experience across the three dimensions of “speed, stability, and smoothness,” which is also the key reason it secured the top spot in both the video and audio experience categories in the Opensignal rankings.

Other Award-Winning Categories: Taiwan Mobile’s Outstanding Performance in Voice Quality and Availability

In addition to taking the top spot in both the video and audio categories, Taiwan Mobile also performed exceptionally well in other areas in this Opensignal report:

5G Voice App Experience: Taiwan Mobile tied for first place with Chunghwa Telecom (84.1 points) and Far EasTone (84.2 points), all with a score of 83.9 points; all three operators received a “Good” rating. This reflects Taiwan Mobile’s ability to provide clear, low-latency call quality across voice calling apps such as WhatsApp, Skype, and Facebook Messenger, as well as emerging AI voice conversation services.

Availability (Time on Network): Taiwan Mobile tied for first place with Far EasTone at 99.4%, while Chunghwa Telecom scored 99.3%. This means that in their daily lives, users can connect to 4G or 5G networks more than 99% of the time, indicating stable and reliable network coverage.

Innovations in Evaluation Methods: Redefining Metrics

In this report, OpenSignal has also renamed the “Availability” metric to “Time on Network” to align with methodological updates to other metrics. These adjustments ensure that the evaluation metrics more accurately reflect users’ actual network experience, rather than just cold, hard speed test numbers.

Conclusion: Taiwan Mobile’s Technology Investments Pay Off, Benefiting Consumers

Taiwan Mobile took the top spot in both video and audio experience categories in Opensignal’s December 2025 report, a testament to its long-term investment in network infrastructure and commitment to driving technological innovation. In today’s world, where mobile video has become an indispensable part of modern life—from binge-watching TV shows, scrolling through short videos, and video conferencing to real-time AI interactions—a smooth video experience directly impacts consumer satisfaction.

Through Taiwan Mobile’s 100MHz 5G “golden bandwidth”—the largest in Taiwan—its NRCA high- and low-frequency integration technology, and ongoing investments in network optimization, the company has established a differentiated competitive advantage in the audio-visual services sector. For consumers, this translates to a smoother streaming experience, more stable video calls, and more responsive interactions with the increasingly widespread AI applications.

As 5G penetration continues to rise, competition among Taiwan’s three major telecom operators over network quality will intensify. As an independent third-party evaluation organization, Opensignal’s regularly published reports provide consumers with an objective basis for choosing telecom services and encourage operators to continuously improve network quality—ultimately benefiting the vast number of mobile network users.
