At last year’s TGA Game Awards, Capcom’s announcement of “Mega Man: Double Overdrive” became one of the biggest surprises at the entire conference. This 12th new game in the “Mega Man” series, currently expected to be launched in 2027, not only brought Capcom’s signature blue mascot back to the stage, but also gave players the opportunity to participate in the design of a certain boss in the game.

Just last December, Capcom officially launched this event, hoping that fans would help Dr. Wily design a “robot with super suction power in its right hand.” As of this month, the event has officially entered the second stage, and Capcom has also revealed the top 20 works selected through the first round, allowing players to go to the official website to log in to vote and select the top six for the next round to enter the finals.
The “Robot Boss Design Contest” that allows fans to participate in the event has actually been one of the traditions of the “Mega Man” series. Interestingly, even the well-known cartoonist of “One Punch Man” and “Light Speed Masked Man” Yusuke Murata participated in similar activities many times before his debut, and his creation eventually succeeded in winning the championship twice in a row and was officially included in “Mega Man 4” and “Mega Man 5” by Capcom.
Adhering to the consistent style of the “Mega Man” series, these robot bosses designed by players all have names in line with the spirit of the series, from “Sanitize Man” to “Sweeper Woman”, and their right arms are equipped with powerful suction devices. Some contestants even wrote complete background stories for the characters.
For example, one of the designs called “Osoji Man” is described by the designer as “a boss who loves to keep the level completely clean”, and his goal is to remove everything foreign from his eyes, including Mega Man. His hair was a broom, he wore a cleaning mask on his face, and his backpack was filled with chemical spray. The following is the complete top 20 design drawings. After players vote for the top six finalists, the final winner will be decided by the “Mega Man: Double Overload” development team. Even so, the names of the top six designers will appear in the game’s final thank you list, and the champion’s design will be directly put into the game and become one of the bosses that Mega Man must face in the game.
