SamsungElectronics annual flagship phone Galaxy S26 seriespre orderIt officially launched on March 5, 2026, but the market response was not as expected. According to multiple sources, the pre-order performance of the S26 series was far below Samsung’s internal expectations, and a large number of pre-order orders were cancelled, posing a severe challenge to the Korean technology giant’s original annual sales target of 34 million units. The pre-order period for the S26 series runs from March 5 to March 10, with the official launch date being March 11. Although Samsung fully demonstrated the features of the new machine at the Galaxy Unpacked conference on February 25, consumer enthusiasm did not seem to be as enthusiastic as in previous years.

Samsung Galaxy S26 pre-order performance is not as good as expected, annual sales target may not be achieved

Well-known whistleblower @SPYGO19726 revealed on social platforms that the number of pre-order cancellations for the Galaxy S26 series is considerable, which directly affects the possibility of Samsung reaching its annual sales target of 34 million units (34M). Another whistleblower, Jason C, bluntly stated that the market has a “general lack of interest” in the S26 series. Such comments triggered heated discussions in the technology circle.

Lots of pre-order cancelled

The projected sales of 34 million won’t happen.

This is all due to the greed of TM roh and his team

A sharp increase in prices is fatal

The main reason for the sluggish pre-order performance is that the industry generally points to the price increase strategy of the S26 series. According to the price announced in the Korean market, the base model of Galaxy S26 is priced at 1,254,000 won (approximately US$865), an increase of 99,000 won (approximately US$68) compared to the previous generation. The high-end Galaxy S26 Ultra has seen an equally impressive increase, priced at 1,797,000 won (approximately $1,240), an increase of 98,600 won (approximately $67) over its predecessor. The top-spec 1TB version of the S26 Ultra has exceeded the 2.5 million won mark and is priced as high as 2,550,400 won (approximately US$1,786). This version alone is 423,000 won (approximately US$293) more expensive than the previous generation.

In the current fierce competition in the smartphone market, such a large price adjustment will undoubtedly deter many potential buyers. Especially in an environment where the global economic outlook remains uncertain, consumers are becoming more cautious in purchasing decisions on high-priced 3C products.

Product innovation is insufficient and difficult to compete with competitors

In addition to price factors, the Galaxy S26 series has also been criticized for its performance in product innovation. Many technology media pointed out that the S26 series is at best an “iterative refresh” and lacks eye-catching breakthrough designs. At the same time, rival Apple’s expected launch of the iPhone 17 series is rumored to bring major design changes, making Samsung’s “minor refresh” strategy appear more conservative. What’s even more regrettable for consumers is that the flagship Galaxy S26 Ultra does not support Qi2’s built-in magnetic function, lagging behind its competitors in terms of wireless charging experience.

In terms of specifications, the S26 Ultra is equipped with a 200MP main lens, a 50MP ultra-wide-angle lens, and a 50MP 5x periscope telephoto lens. The camera module adopts an independent camera island design with a three-lens configuration, and the body adopts a rounded frame design. The battery capacity is approximately 5,000mAh to 5,200mAh, and is equipped with Flex Magic Pixel OLED “privacy display” technology. In terms of color matching, there are four options: Cobalt Violet, Black Shadow, White Shadow and Galactic Blue. However, these specification upgrades obviously lack enough incentives for users with previous-generation models to switch.

Pre-order benefits shrink, sincerity is questioned

To make matters worse, the pre-order benefits provided by Samsung are also considered by many consumers to be “insufficient in sincerity.” According to the official plan, pre-order users can only get a $30 discount coupon, a free storage capacity upgrade (256GB upgrade to 512GB), and a trade-in discount of up to $900.

Compared with the past high-value accessories such as Galaxy Buds headphones and wireless charging pads that were often given away when pre-ordering the Galaxy S series, this year’s pre-order benefits have significantly shrunk. When the innovation of the product itself is limited and the price rises sharply, the downgrade of the pre-order plan will undoubtedly further weaken consumers’ willingness to purchase.

Market prospects are worrying, Samsung faces challenges

As one of Samsung’s most important revenue sources, the sales performance of the Galaxy S series directly affects the company’s overall financial status. The lack of pre-orders for the S26 series not only casts a shadow on the annual sales target of 34 million units, but also highlights that Samsung’s strategy in the flagship mobile phone market may face adjustment pressure. Some analysts pointed out that Samsung’s pace of innovation in flagship models in recent years has indeed tended to be conservative and lack differentiated experiences, which has gradually made consumers lose their novelty. At the same time, improper pricing strategies may also cause some users to switch to competitors.

As the official launch date of March 11 is approaching, it is worth continuing to observe whether Samsung can reverse the decline through subsequent marketing operations or channel discounts. However, judging from the current pre-order data, the Galaxy S26 series may not be able to replicate the sales performance of the S series in previous years.

point of view

The sluggish pre-orders of the Galaxy S26 series reflect a cruel reality: As the smartphone market matures, consumers’ tolerance for “toothpaste-squeezing” upgrades has been significantly reduced. Samsung’s choice to significantly increase prices in a year with limited innovation is undoubtedly a high-risk test of brand loyalty. What deserves more attention is the shrinking of pre-order benefits, which may imply that Samsung’s internal sales expectations for the S26 series have tended to be conservative, trying to maintain profit margins by reducing marketing costs. However, this “double reduction” strategy (price increase, courtesy reduction) is particularly dangerous in a highly competitive market.

If Samsung cannot reverse its decline, the S26 series is likely to become the weakest Galaxy S flagship in recent years, forcing Samsung to rethink next year’s product strategy and pricing model. As the iPhone 17 series approaches, the second half of this flagship battle has just begun.
