Asha Sharma, the new CEO of Microsoft’s gaming division, has only just taken over the job, but she seems to be ready to reveal the latest news to players about the future development of the Xbox console brand. According to the latest information recently released by Xbox officials, the current development codename of the next-generation Xbox console is “Project Helix.” Not only that, this new console will support games on both Xbox and PC platforms.

Asha Sharma officially revealed the news on his personal social media, adding that “Project Helix” represents the Xbox team’s commitment to “Xbox’s return to glory.” In addition, the video attached to the post also showed the “Project Helix” logo and the suspected sound effects when the console started.

Former Xbox president Sarah Bond confirmed last year that the next-generation Xbox console had indeed entered the development stage, and revealed that the console was built in partnership between Microsoft and AMD. Not long ago, Microsoft had denied rumors that they were about to completely withdraw from the game console hardware market. Not only that, Sarah Bond also described the new machine as a “high-end console” that can bring an exquisite gaming experience.

In addition, even Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella has previously hinted that the next generation of Xbox consoles will operate closer to a gaming PC. According to him, they decided to build this new machine because they wanted to make a better PC, specifically designed for gaming.

Interestingly, just before Microsoft confirmed that the next-generation console “Project Helix” can play PC games, relevant news also hinted that Sony is currently planning to gradually cancel its plans to bring its PlayStation exclusive games to the PC platform. The recently launched “Yotei Mountain War Ghost” and “Marvel Wolverine” which will be launched in September this year will not be launched on the PC version.

Not only that, “Project Helix” that can play PC games will also directly compete with Valve’s Steam Machine, which is expected to be launched this year. However, the ongoing memory shortage crisis may also affect the production capacity of Microsoft’s next-generation console, and even Valve has not disclosed more details related to Steam Machine.

This news is a crucial moment for Xbox, especially after the departure of president Sarah Bond and CEO Phil Spencer, not to mention that many well-known series from Xbox have been scheduled to be launched on the PlayStation 5 console. It seems that it has become more difficult than ever for Microsoft to convince players to buy its own Xbox console. However, newly appointed Asha Sharma has also hinted that she is willing to once again focus on Xbox exclusive plans.
