Sony officially unveiled its new mid-range smartphone, the Xperia 10 VIII, on August 25, continuing the 10 series’ signature lightweight design with “practicality and convenience” at the core. The new device brings clear upgrades in screen brightness, speaker audio quality, and quick payment shortcuts, while retaining a battery life of up to two days. It is expected to roll out globally in stages from mid-to-late September.

Compared to the flagship Xperia 1 series, which focuses on professional imaging and top-tier performance, the Xperia 10 series targets everyday use cases, emphasizing lightweight portability and practical features. This time, the upgrades on the Xperia 10 VIII also revolve around the core theme of “making daily life more convenient,” with concrete improvements across the display, audio, and shortcut operations. It’s clear that Sony is trying to carve out a distinct position in the mid-range market.

Screen brightness increased by 50% for clearer outdoor viewing.

The Xperia 10 VIII features a 6.1-inch LTPS OLED display with support for a refresh rate of up to 120Hz. Sony says the new model’s screen brightness is about 50% higher than the previous Xperia 10 VII, making maps and web pages easier to read in bright outdoor conditions. Additionally, the display automatically adjusts its colors based on ambient lighting to provide a more comfortable viewing experience in different environments. For users who frequently rely on their phone for navigation or checking messages outdoors, this upgrade offers practical benefits.

Upgraded front stereo dual speakers with enhanced volume and bass.

Audio has always been one of the defining features of the Xperia 10 series, and the Xperia 10 VIII continues to build on that strength. Sony has upgraded the speaker system and retuned the front-firing stereo speakers, delivering roughly 15% more overall volume than the previous generation, with bass performance improved by over 30%. Whether you’re binge-watching shows or listening to music, you get a fuller, richer audio experience. Combined with the retained 3.5mm headphone jack, the Xperia 10 VIII remains one of the few mid-range phones that still sticks with this spec for users who prefer wired earphones.

“Points and Payment” quick menu, activated by pressing the power button twice.

The Xperia 10 VIII adds a new “Rewards & Pay” shortcut menu feature that lets users quickly open frequently used apps like payments and membership rewards by simply pressing the power button twice. This feature is designed for one-handed use and is especially practical in scenarios like rushing during commutes or when both hands are occupied, eliminating the steps of unlocking the screen and searching for apps. Sony positions this feature as an accelerator for everyday checkout processes, allowing users to complete payments more quickly when queuing at supermarkets or riding public transportation.

Two-day battery life, no worries—long-lasting battery design built to last four years.

The Xperia 10 VIII comes with a large 5,000mAh battery, with the official claim of up to two days of battery life. Sony also emphasizes its “long-lasting battery design,” which helps maintain stable performance even after four years of use, reducing the decline in battery life caused by battery aging.

In terms of hardware specifications, the new device comes with 8GB RAM and supports up to 6GB of virtual memory expansion, making multitasking smoother. Storage remains at 128GB, and the microSD card slot is retained, allowing users to expand storage capacity as needed.

It continues to use the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3, keeping performance at a mid-range level.

In terms of processor, the Xperia 10 VIII continues to use the Qualcomm Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 mobile platform, the same as the previous Xperia 10 VII, with performance similar to its predecessor. Although the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 is not the latest chip, it still delivers a stable and smooth experience in everyday usage.

The new device comes pre-loaded with Android 16 and supports AI features such as Google Gemini, Circle to Search, and Ask Photos. It has an IP68 water and dust resistance rating, and the camera features a 48MP dual-lens setup that continues the horizontally arranged module design.

Translucent layered design, three new colorways.

In terms of exterior design, the Xperia 10 VIII adopts the concept of “Translucent Layer,” featuring a transparent back cover with a frosted translucent coating to achieve a light and airy texture. The new device is available in three color options: “Frost Gray,” “Snow White,” and “Misty Purple,” continuing Xperia’s signature minimalist and refined style.

Sony has also launched a dedicated stylish protective case with a built-in hidden kickstand, allowing the angle to be adjusted in either portrait or landscape orientation for convenient video viewing.

Hello Kitty Limited Edition Makes Its Debut at the Same Time

This time, Sony has also teamed up with Hello Kitty, the iconic character from Sanrio, to launch a limited special edition of the Xperia 10 VIII. Buyers of the special edition will receive an exclusive Hello Kitty co-branded crossbody pouch, which can hold the phone and other personal items, along with a matching tote bag. Cross-brand collaborations like this are hardly uncommon in the smartphone market, but Sony’s choice to partner with Hello Kitty is clearly aimed at consumers who favor a light, stylish aesthetic—and it adds plenty of collectible appeal to the Xperia 10 VIII.

Price and release date

Sony Xperia 10 VIII is expected to launch globally in mid-to-late September. According to overseas information, European pricing starts at 599 euros (approximately NT$21,300; Taiwan should be around 18,000), a noticeable increase from the previous generation Xperia 10 VII’s starting price of 449 euros. However, some foreign media speculate that the actual retail price may fall between 449 and 499 euros. The Taiwan release date and price are still to be announced by Sony Taiwan.

Overall, the Xperia 10 VIII doesn’t change much in terms of hardware specs—the processor and camera setup are the same as the previous generation—but it does bring concrete upgrades to everyday usage areas like screen brightness, speaker sound quality, and quick payment shortcuts. Sony has clearly chosen a path of “not chasing spec wars, but focusing on everyday experience,” carving out its own style in the mid-range phone market. For Xperia users who prefer a lightweight body, long battery life, and a 3.5mm headphone jack, the Xperia 10 VIII remains a mid-range option worth keeping an eye on.
