So far, many experiments have confirmed thatMacBook Neo Even if it is equipped with the same model as iPhone 16 A18 Pro Chip, game performance is also quite good, even 3A masterpieces such as “Cyberpunk 2077” and “Elden Ring” can run. but,MacBook Neo adopts a fanless design, with only a graphene cooling pad covering the interior.processorOn the top, the heat dissipation capacity is quite limited, so under long-term high load, it will definitely encounter the bottleneck of “overheating and frequency reduction”. For this reason, a well-known foreign YouTuber recently conducted a transformation test. Unexpectedly, just adding a piece of copper can almost double the FPS of the game, and the effect is amazing.

MacBook Neo can significantly improve gaming performance by just adding a piece of copper to improve heat dissipation

The YouTube channel “ETA PRIME”, which has more than 1.3 million subscribers, earlier uploaded a video of modifying the heat dissipation of MacBook Neo. He mainly changed it to liquid cooling, but in the first half, he added a copper piece and tested it. The reason why he did this is because when he tested MacBook Neo games before, although the performance was not bad, he was not satisfied with the overheating and frequency reduction problem. He wanted to see if he could squeeze more performance out of this chip after modification.

The renovation of ETA PRIME was divided into two phases.

The first stage is “copper sheet heat dissipation modification”. He first disassembled the bottom case of MacBook Neo, and then used a heat gun to remove the original graphene cooling pad:

Then, he cut a 99.9% pure copper sheet into a homemade heat sink that fits the size of the motherboard. After applying Noctua NT-H1 thermal paste on the processor, he covered the copper sheet. Finally, he attached a layer of Arctic TP-3 thermal pad on top of the copper sheet to ensure close contact between the copper sheet and the aluminum alloy bottom case. In this way, the heat of the processor can be conducted to the entire aluminum alloy body through the copper sheet, greatly improving the heat dissipation efficiency:

The effect of this transformation alone is very obvious.

The picture below is an actual measurement of “No Man’s Sky” before modification. The processor temperature reached 105°C, triggering overheating protection and forcing it to reduce frequency. The frame rate was only 30 to 34 FPS:

After adding copper heat dissipation, the temperature dropped to 82 to 84°C, and the frame rate soared directly to 58 FPS, almost doubling:

He also tested Geekbench 6. The multi-core score increased from the original 7,921 points to 8,692 points (an increase of 9.7%), and the single-core score also increased from 3,094 points to 3,563 points (an increase of 15.2%):

In addition, he also added in the video that some people have tried to stack a thermal pad on top of the processor without adding copper sheets. Although the frequency reduction speed will be slower, the overheating protection will eventually be triggered, and the effect is not as good as adding copper sheets.

The second stage is “external liquid cooling radiator”. ETA PRIME uses a magnetic liquid-cooled Peltier radiator with a maximum power of 50W. This radiator was originally designed to dissipate heat for mobile phones:

What’s very special is that the principle of this radiator is that one side absorbs heat and the other side dissipates heat after being powered on. The cold side can even drop to below zero and freeze. He also actually showed the ice on the surface in the video:

Next, magnetically attach the radiator to the corresponding position of the processor on the bottom of MacBook Neo, and use it with the copper sheet installed on the front to further remove the heat:

Standby temperature drops to 23°C:

“No Man’s Sky” can still maintain an average frame rate of about 80 FPS after 30 minutes of continuous play:

In the Geekbench 6 running score section, the single-core score reached 3,636 points and the multi-core score reached 9,394 points, which were an increase of 17.52% and 18.6% respectively compared with the original state:

Of course, this type of modification will definitely affect the warranty, so it is not recommended, and liquid cooling radiators are not cheap. But at least what we can know is that if you plan to use MacBook Neo to play games, remember to use external cooling.
