Recently, a foreign repair shop shared a tragic case of the RTX 4090. In order to obtain a 5FPS improvement, the user almost completely destroyed the originally good RTX 4090. Not only did the motherboard have scratches everywhere, but it was also soldered randomly, causing many short circuits.

The foreign YouTube channel NorthWestRepair will share some graphics card repair cases every once in a while. The latest Gigabyte RTX 4090 can be said to be very miserable on the entire card. The reason is that the user wants to modify the voltage, so that when the weather is good, the performance can be improved by 5fps.
NorthWestRepair said that when he got the RTX 4090, he immediately discovered some serious problems, such as broken labels and missing screws. However, after turning to the side, he also saw a very strange situation. The memory and GPU chips were covered with thick “adhesive” and could not be seen at all. He also speculated that there might not be a GPU chip inside:

Then he removed the back panel of the RTX 4090, and it was indeed very miserable inside. There were many rough amateur welding marks. Someone tried to do some welding in this area:

Next, he disassembled the cooling component. When he disassembled it, he immediately shouted “OMG”. This shows how miserable it was. This was probably the messiest application of thermal paste he had ever seen. It was everywhere. Fortunately, after wiping off the thermal paste, the GPU and memory chips were not damaged and were original parts. This also meant that his previous guess was wrong:

Of course, the final step was to start repairing it. I have to say that I didn’t expect NorthWestRepair to be able to repair it in such a miserable condition. It’s really amazing.
As you can see from the video, he is constantly cleaning, testing, and re-soldering, and he continues to do this. He also said helplessly that almost no part of this RTX 4090 board is intact:

After the first round of repairs is completed, there are still more problems waiting to be solved. Things like broken or missing resistors and capacitors, or even broken PCB traces, all require precision soldering repairs:
