A few hours ago, Taiwan Meta’s official fan page suddenly posted “Meta AI Here it comes! It’s rolling out in Taiwan and Japan. Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger are all usable. In other words, Meta AI is now available in Taiwan too, without needing to use a VPN to switch regions. But there’s one small key point in this statement: “rolling out” — it’s not being opened to all Taiwan and Japan users at once, but rather pushed out gradually.
For this reason, I also checked my Facebook account. Unfortunately, I wasn’t in the lucky first batch. When I log in now, Facebook still shows “Meta AI is not yet available in your country/region.” Judging from the replies to this post, it seems many people haven’t received it, and someone joked, “Could it be a scam?”
Although it’s good news that Meta AI is finally coming to Taiwan, honestly, it’s been delayed for so long that at least the first batch should be open to most users—that would get a better response. Instead, right now they’re rushing to make the announcement, but only a small portion of users can actually use it.
Even if it opens up later, users who were originally excited to try it might end up losing interest. After all, AI services like Gemini, ChatGPT, and Grok have been available in Taiwan for a while, and they perform better than Meta AI. Without the appeal of being a first release, there’s really no strong reason for people to go out of their way to try it.
In any case, here are a few things you can experience on Meta AI.
1. Answer questions and search for information (built-in search)
Like other AI chatbots, Meta AI can not only answer questions based on its knowledge base, but also has web search functionality. You can ask it:
