Evidence that Android phones support running Chrome OS has been dug up, and it was even installed on Pixel 7 Pro for actual testing!

Before the Keynote of the Google I/O Developer Conference, foreign media Android Authority suddenly broke the news that Google has begun to show other companies that Pixel 8 runs the open source version of Chorme OS in the form of a virtual machine through AVF (Android Virtualization Framework), which is the Demo of Chromium OS. And by using an external screen (this game can be said to have been deployed for a long time) and a keyboard and mouse, the problem of small screen and inconvenient operation of the mobile phone is avoided.
What’s even more cool is that foreign media actually found a way to flash the phone. Through the AOSP special version of Android system, with the help of AVF and virtual machine applications, the Chromium OS desktop system was successfully run on the small screen of Pixel 7 Pro.
That is to say, it is currently rumored that the solution code-named “ferrochrome” is being developed. At least for the Pixel mobile phone series, it should be more suitable for the Pixel 8 series, which can natively support external screens.
However, foreign media encountered some bugs and were unable to successfully enter the settings page, so they tried to use Pixel 7 Pro to break through. Unexpectedly, it can still be started successfully.

I have to say that although it looks painful on a small screen, Chromium OS running in this way also successfully supports external mouse and keyboard. The initial operation is still running smoothly.
It is a pity that the current news indicates that Google does not seem to plan to announce ferrochrome-related news at the recent press conference – not surprising, after all, from the current status, such support is still in a very early stage of development.

The ideal and attempt to switch to a more productive desktop system running on mobile devices has not stopped for more than ten years. In the past, not only did many geniuses run desktop systems directly on mobile phones, but also brands tried to use “desktop-like” themes and related hardware to cater to many consumers’ imagination of mobile phones/desktops.
The product that feels closest to this ideal at this stage is the Apple M2 on a Mac or even more powerful M4 chip iPad Pro series. But Apple has long given a big “No” to running macOS on its own tablet devices.

However, Google originally believed that dual system support was meaningless on the grounds that “They’re both successful” with Android and Chrome OS. Being caught this time may be because Chorme OS has taken action to support various “Hybrid” systems after supporting Android apps. I don’t know if there is an opportunity to create pressure for other companies in the market to follow suit.
