The TV is the heart of the home—where family members gather, cheer, and connect with one another. Before CES even kicked off back in January, Google had already announced it would bring its Gemini AI to more products, and Google TV was naturally part of that. After months of waiting, Gemini has finally made its way onto the Google TV platform.
After months, Google TV begins rolling out the Gemini assistant.
Google statesThe new Gemini AI can do everything voice assistants could do in the past, and it goes even further. All the things you already do with Google Assistant still work, but Gemini on Google TV goes beyond simple commands, letting you have free-flowing conversations with your big screen, get help, find shows that match your mood, brainstorm family trip ideas, or answer complex homework questions. You can still start with the same “Hey Google” wake phrase or by pressing the microphone button on your remote, but the interaction is designed to feel more natural, and you can ask follow-up questions without having to start over each time.
Google offers some examples to illustrate how Gemini is very helpful. For instance, if you can’t remember the exact name of a show, you can just describe its content, like “the new medical drama everyone’s been talking about lately” or “help me find some TV series suitable for parents and kids to watch together,” and the LLM chatbot will figure it out. Google also says that if you haven’t kept up with TV shows for a while, the AI can help you catch up on shows of a similar genre. Additionally, before you start watching a series, you can ask Gemini about reviews of the show, or ask it to recap what happened in the latest season, before deciding whether to start binge-watching it.
In addition, Gemini provides practical answers through YouTube video support, letting you learn on the biggest screen in your home. It can help children with schoolwork, guide you in learning new skills such as guitar, and more.
Currently, this feature is only available on the TCL QM9K series, but Google has promised it will roll out to more devices later this year. Those upcoming devices include additional TCL models such as the QM7K, QM8K, and X11K. It will also arrive on the 2025 Hisense U7, U8, and UX series, as well as the 4K Pro and Google TV Streamer.
