It seems that fake GeForce RTX 4090 graphics cards have been circulating in various countries. You should be careful when buying high-end graphics cards now.. Following a previous incident in Hong Kong where a netizen bought a fake card with the entire internal GPU chip missing.Recently, there has been another case of buying a fake RTX 4090 assembled card in the United States. Unlike Hong Kong, this card has a GPU chip, but it is a burnt RTX 4090M, not the original GPU chip of the RTX 4090. In addition, although there is a chip, it is still unusable because it is burned out. Moreover, this graphics card was still sold from Amazon.

Terrible fake RTX 4090 assembled cards are circulating on the market, or sold from Amazon in the United States

Recently, the foreign repair shop northwestrepair shared their latest RTX 4090 counterfeit card repair case on the YouTube channel. This customer purchased the ASUS ROG 4090 24GB graphics card from Amazon. Before northwestrepair even opened it, he had already seen a lot of damage to the appearance. He originally thought it was just caused by poor transportation, but then he discovered that it was worse than this:

Even the power interface is melted:

There is a fake original warranty sticker on a screw on the back, and two screws are locked too tightly and cannot be easily removed with a screwdriver. They must be soaked in alcohol first:

After removing the back cover and radiator, I immediately noticed that the heat dissipation silicone sheet only covered half of the memory chip, which was very abnormal. Then the GPU itself was almost completely burned, and the appearance was very miserable:

There are also many components on the PCB board that are burned out:

The most interesting thing is the serial number sticker on the casing, which says that this card is a 24GB RTX 4090 graphics card:

But after looking at the label above the GPU chip, the AD103-300-A1 should be the chip for the RTX 4080 laptop GPU (the video mistakenly refers to RTX 4090 laptop GPU, but it is actually the RTX 4080 laptop GPU), and is only equipped with 12GB of memory:

The right side of the picture below is the GPU chip that the RTX 4090 should have. It is much larger in size:

In the end, northwestrepair determined that this card used an RTX 4080 motherboard, replaced it with an RTX 4080 laptop GPU, and then claimed that it was an RTX 4090 graphics card. There are problems everywhere, so it’s completely beyond repair.

It is worth noting thatAccording to Tom’s Hareware, this RTX 4090 was not sold as a new product, but was purchased from an Amazon user who returned it, so it is possible that the user returned the fake display card, got the cash back, and then kept the real card, and the fake card was sold to unsuspecting users.

In any case, there have been many incidents of fake RTX 4090 cards on the market. It can be seen that as long as it is not a brand-new RTX 4090, you must be particularly careful when buying it, and it is even not recommended to buy it at all. In addition, even if it is a brand new product, you should pay more attention if you buy it from a general user or an unknown store.
