After experiencing peak performance events before, iPhone users already have built-in system functions that can quickly check their health and even determine whether to limit performance settings. It’s time to change the battery, Android seems to be preparing more advanced battery health features
With the European Union’s dream of turning all the transmission lines in the drawer into USB-C, it was realized early in the iPhone 15 series (eh). It has been previously reported that products sold in EU countries will need to be designed with replaceable batteries. If this becomes their next target, perhaps even the Android brand will not be able to escape the fate of being targeted.
After all, even in the past, there was no shortage of smartphone products with replaceable batteries in the Android market. However, in recent years, it is obvious that such product designs are no longer favored by most brands.

Perhaps because of this, when some governments begin to care about consumer rights related to battery replacement, they will obviously also pay more attention to this situation, which is considered to be related to the “chemical age” of the battery. It is basically inevitable that the battery capacity and performance will decrease, and may even cause the mobile phone to fail to operate normally.
And get ahead of the trend of hardware providing easier battery replacement. I believe that what everyone is most concerned about is how to quickly check and confirm the battery health, and even allow the system to proactively report solutions to possible battery problems.

Regarding this point, iPhone users who have previously encountered peak performance events have already had built-in system functions that can quickly check their health and even determine whether to limit performance settings. On the Android side, it seems that nowIn addition to third-party systems or applications and through engineering modeIn addition, Google also plans to provide more in-depth battery health-related display and support.

First of all, after the latest Pixel Drop update, we have seen that in the Pixel 7 Pro settings, Google provides relevant data including manufacturing date and battery cycle number in the system’s “About Phone > Battery Information”.
After further digging by foreign media, it was discovered that Android 14 seems to be preparing a function to display battery health-related information in a more in-depth manner – in fact, the function settings can already be found in the Beta version, but the actual displayed information has not yet been officially provided.

Information discovered by Android Authority directly mining APKs. It can be seen that the Android system seems to have prepared to import battery-related displays and functions including “estimated percentage of charge the battery can currently hold compared to when it was new (the estimated percentage of charge capacity of the current battery compared to the new battery)” and “recalibration”.
The former’s display and translation are quite vernacular; the latter’s instructions mention that the correction process may take several weeks. It can be seen that this should be a function that allows users to try to calculate more accurate battery health through the system detection mechanism in addition to the estimation based on laboratory standard specifications.

In addition to these instructions, foreign media also dug up status icons including battery life decline, calibration and unknown battery health. The system also provides related statuses for the battery including “original battery”, “repaired” and “unsupported” that are displayed as undetectable.
That is to say, based on the characteristics of Android’s relatively high degree of freedom ecosystem. Google probably doesn’t have too many restrictions or warnings about third-party repairs. But this also means that unsupported repair parts may also lead to differences in subsequent use experience. According to speculation by foreign media, this feature should be added to the Android health HAL system API in the future. And look forward to the opportunity to officially launch it in Android 15.
