The aluminum alloy body of MacBook Pro has always given people a very durable impression, so most users will not buy protective cases, but this does not mean that every part is like this. Recently, a Reddit netizen from abroad shared his painful experience. When he was applying a dbrand skin protective film to his MacBook Pro, he originally wanted to make the film on the palm rest area fit better, so he used a hair dryer to heat it. Unexpectedly, before the film was completely attached, the direction keys next to it had been blown by hot air and deformed, which made him want to cry. Moreover, this is the new M5 Pro version.

M5 Pro MacBook Pro protective film is out of the box! Netizens heated it with a hair dryer and the direction keys melted and deformed.

according to Wccftech According to this statement, a Reddit user NAVPRO360 shared on the r/macbookpro version that he wanted to change the appearance of his M5 Pro MacBook Pro before applying the dbrand skin protective film. However, during the process of applying the film, he did not notice that the palm rest area was not applied very smoothly, leaving some wrinkles, so he decided to use a hair dryer to heat it to see if it could make the film softer and more compliant.

This method is not based on his own imagination. dbrand’s official FAQ mentioned that gentle heating can make the vinyl more easily adhere to the curved surface and edges, making it less prone to wrinkles.

However, he did not notice that the keyboard is next to the palm rest, and the keycaps of the MacBook Pro are not aluminum alloy, but plastic keycaps. Therefore, when the hot air from the hair dryer continues to blow out, the direction key area is blown to melt and deform, and the appearance is obviously different:

The M5 Pro MacBook Pro I just bought is so deformed, I believe anyone will want to cry. Fortunately, NAVPRO360 has purchased AppleCare+, so he mentioned in other comments later that he will go to AppleCare+ first to see if it can be repaired, but he is not sure whether there will be additional charges.

But for some reason, this Reddit postIt was deleted by the original PO earlier. Judging from the comment area, many netizens left comments of ridicule and criticism after the post was made public. The author also responded to some of the negative comments in the comments, so it may be because the reaction in the comment area was too intense. However, the author did not publicly state the actual reason for deletion:

In fact, this incident cannot be simplified to “you must not use a hair dryer when applying protective film.”dbrand official support pageIt is indeed mentioned that in some cases, a hair dryer can be used to make the film softer, such as to soften the adhesive when removing the film, or to make it easier for the film to adhere to curved surfaces and edges. It is even mentioned in the FAQ related to transportation and installation that if the skin is slightly bent due to transportation, you can lay it flat and heat it with a hair dryer for about 10 to 15 seconds to make it flat:

The real problem is that a hair dryer is not a precise temperature control tool. Therefore, if the distance is too close, if the hot air blows in the same position for too long, or if the hot air blows at the right angle to plastic and rubber parts such as the keyboard, screen frame, and rubber strips, problems may occur. So as long as you are careful, using a hair dryer is not a big problem.
