Firefox will have a built-in “fake review detector” to deal with generative AI’s false reviews. Foreign media: Online shopping is really embarrassing.
As many consumers turn to online shopping, driven by the insecurity of not being able to touch products directly like in physical stores, in addition to watching many unboxing articles/videos, they will also refer to the so-called consumer evaluation mechanisms provided by many shopping website platforms to give scores and leave messages.
Perhaps because of this trend, many manufacturers will use their crooked brains to these evaluation and comment sections, trying to add fake reviews that are almost real to create a good average score or even lead to a trend. The point is, with the help of generative AI, such behavior becomes more difficult to identify and the behavior that leads to “evaluation laundering” becomes easier and easier.

At present, foreign media have discovered that a fake review checker function called “Review Checker” can already be seen in Firefox’s experimental function. Through their simple test use, they confirmed that this feature can filter out false reviews on shopping websites including Amazon, BestBuy, and Walmart.
Once Firefox updates to add this feature (currently expected to be introduced to the v120 update version for desktop and Android on 11/23), you will be able to see a new icon that looks like a price tag lit up blue in the address bar when browsing shopping websites.

According to the demonstration of the foreign media MS Power User trial desktop version, once you click the Review Checker button to start using this function, an information bar will pop up on the right side of Firefox to display evaluation information about the products displayed on the shopping website.
The Review Checker review checking mechanism will combine the complex mechanism of AI artificial intelligence and machine learning derived from Fakespot technology to first give the review string of the product webpage you are currently browsing a score from A to F (A or B is considered credible, be careful if it is below this standard), so that users can initially judge the reliability of the relevant comments on this webpage; on the other hand, this mechanism can also use a similar filtering method to restore the “Adjusted average review” rating)” and sort out the key comments.
I have to say that this function is really convenient. If the technology behind it is generative AI that can be more universally used in various languages, I hope it will soon be expanded to more commonly used shopping and auction websites in Taiwan. I believe it will reduce more problems of misguided consumption.
