For those of you who frequent online shopping and Taobao, you must know that there are many fake SSDs in the market now, and the prices are super cheap, which makes people very excited, but they are afraid that they will be useless garbage when they are bought. If you haven’t bought it yet, congratulations, and definitely don’t buy it. Recently, a foreign YouTube frequency tester bought four fake SSD products from the Internet and conducted actual tests, including a capacity of up to 128TB, and the Samsung 990 PRO that has not yet been launched. 4TB, every one of them is pretty bad.
There are many fake SSDs measured abroad with less than 2,000 units, including 64TB, 128TB, and even the 990 PRO 4TB that has not yet been launched.
Earlier, the foreign YouTube channel der8auer EN shared the actual test results of 4 fake SSD products they bought from the online shopping platform. Each of them cost no more than 50 euros, especially the 64TB and 128TB SSDs, which only cost 30 to 40 euros, which means they are all under NT$2,000. They are super cheap and many people will be excited to see them.
The 64TB and 128TB SSDs are not specifically labeled as to what brand they are, they are just external SSD portable hard drives. Normally, an SSD with such a large capacity costs 4-digit euros, which cannot be only 30 to 40 euros, so you can easily tell that this is a fake just from this:
The other two are fake Samsung SSDs, namely 980 EVO and 990 PRO. The former is already on sale, and the latter Samsung has said it will launch, but it is not yet on the market, which means that the fake Samsung 990 PRO 4TB is on sale in the market before the genuine one:
After plugging it into the computer, both 64TB and 128TB are recognized normally. It seems that they really have such a large capacity. However, I can’t find any relevant information using CrystalDiskinfo. Although the CrystalDiskMark test can be selected, the speed is super slow. The 64TB read is only 15.91MB/s and the write is only 8.16MB/s:
The 128TB is even worse. It can’t even run, so there must be something wrong somewhere:
Then der8auer EN decided to take it apart and take a look inside, but both external SSDs were sealed tightly, so other tools were needed to cut them open:
As expected, the inside is really amazing. The PCB and motherboard are very small, and they only have MicroSD cards. It is indeed a scam:
Moreover, the motherboard used inside can be seen to be from the same factory, and the surfaces of the IC and microSD memory card used have also been painted out. It is obvious that they do not want to be traced, and no information can be found.
He put one of the cards into a computer card reader, formatted it and changed it to NTFS, and used CrystalDiskMark to actually read 20.33MB/s and write 10.68MB/s. The capacity is actually 64GB:
A memory card with such speed and capacity only costs 1 to 2 euros on the market, while other components such as PCB motherboard and chassis plus OnePlus, the total price is at most 3 to 4 euros, which means they sell it for 30 to 40 euros, making nearly 10 times, and the profit is quite high.

But the reading and writing speed is still very bad when measured, reading 36.25Mb/s and writing less than 1MB/s, which is a thousand times worse than the original:

However, the read and write speeds are still a bit experienced, with reading 2472.9MB/s and writing 1056.77MB/s. However, this should break down after a short time:
So, don’t waste money on buying a fake SSD and try it out. You will definitely regret it and it will become electronic waste after you receive it.
