Google TranslateWith strong momentum recently, not only are preparations underway for cool new AI features like Insights, Questions, and Practice, but a new generation of UI updates is also moving toward one of the most underrated tools: Conversation Mode. According to foreign media Android Authority’s reportFrom this, we see the latest updates in Google Translate version 9.13.97, and it’s clear that Google has placed Gemini at the core.

Google Translate will get Gemini-powered enhancement for conversation mode.

First, there’s a visual update to the title. The interface’s current utilitarian style will be replaced by a richer, more refined layout. At the top of the new conversation view, you’ll see a prominent “Build with Gemini” tag—an unmistakable nod to Google’s growing reliance on its in-house AI. At the bottom, a disclaimer is subtly embedded, reminding users that generative AI can still make mistakes—a fair caveat, of course.

But this change is not just a reskin. Functionally, the new user interface is smarter and more interactive. One of the more user-friendly new features is a set of language suggestions designed to help users quickly switch to the second speaker’s language. Unsurprisingly, this feature dynamically adjusts based on your location or recent usage, a move that echoes Google Translate’s push for context-aware features.

Additionally, a button for toggling autoplay has been added, which was previously hidden behind the settings menu. This is a small but welcome improvement that enhances the user experience. However, not all features have become more convenient. The toggle for manual mode has been demoted and is now buried deeper in the settings menu, meaning users who prefer the old-school dual-microphone manual setup will need to click a few extra times to reach the desired feature.

Speaking of manual mode, its visual presentation has also improved. For users who want to control the microphone call themselves, the new interface is cleaner and easier to read, especially noticeable during active conversations. The distinction of inline translations is clearer, and speaker identification clarity has also improved, which is crucial when quickly switching between conversations.

Then there’s face-to-face mode, Google Translate’s clever interface that lets you switch between conversations when sharing the same device, making it easy to go back and forth. This mode has also been redesigned, keeping the same Gemini branding logo and a more modern design. Like the main conversation mode, face-to-face mode benefits from the new design and clearer speaker prompts.

All these updates point to the same thing: Google is laying the groundwork for deeper integration between Gemini and Translate. While these features are still not public, it’s clear that Google is working to make the Translate app smarter, more conversational, and more useful.
