Google suddenly sent a reminder letter about “changes related to archive archives of photo albums”, and three types of images will be deleted starting from 7/19

Since ancient times (?), Google has cut off so many services, basically countless (you can take a lookServices that have historically gone out of businessWhat are some). However, it seems that you rarely see this kind of thing when you only send a letter of “changes related to the archive archive of the photo album” and prepare to cut off part of the content of Google Photos next month?

Today, Google sent a letter – not only is the signed “Photo Album Archiving Team” a bit mysterious, but also the changes they plan to bring after 7/19 are also quite confusing.

To put it simply, this is an announcement from Google that it will delete the contents of archived files in some cloud albums, and reminds that you can use “Google Export” to back up in advance before the deadline.

It’s just that there seems to be no Google service shutdown in my memory recently, so this somewhat lackluster letter also caused considerable confusion. It may even be considered a strange scam letter. However, if you take a closer look at the three major categories that will be deleted this time, they include:

1. A few cases such as small photo thumbnails, album comments or clicked likes
2. Part of the Google Hangouts data in the album archive
3. Background images uploaded in the Gmail theme picker before 2018

In fact, the literal meaning is still a bit difficult to understand, but basically it should mean that Google will deal with the remaining conversation archived image content of some closed services such as Hangouts, as well as some small thumbnails and Gmail theme background images left in a few cases.

That is to say, actually click on the official website get.google.com/albumarchive After the link is confirmed, you can see it. Not only picture materials of past communication services appear in it. Surprisingly, I also saw pictures from the Blogger blog service appearing in it – I also tried it myself, and deleting it will indeed directly affect the display of pictures on the blog…

At this point, I’m not sure whether Google mistakenly displayed Blogger’s photo album on the page that warns “After July 19, 2023, the photos and videos displayed here will no longer be available.” Regarding this point, I personally think it is a bug issue. Otherwise, use the Blogger interface normally and use your own Google Cloud file space to upload images. How come it was suddenly included in the so-called “changes related to archived photo album files” that will be deleted?

As for the description on another official page, it is mentioned that after this time point on July 19, 2023, you can view Google products and how to manage content. Blogger, Google Account, Google Photos and Hangouts are listed, and only the last Hangouts mentions that it needs to be exported, and that the service has been upgraded to Google Chat. Plus Blogger’s photo album pageThere is no announcement that it will be deleted, so it should be fine (should be).

I have to say that if Google really mistakenly placed Blogger’s picture album in the archive area of the album that was prompted to be deleted, it really should have corrected it quickly. Otherwise, it should cause a panic among users who run Blogger blogs – just… you will think that all the pictures will be deleted after 7/19, which will definitely make you panic~ It’s impossible to turn off Blogger, right? (No way…)
