Although the spotlight of this year’s WWDC should be on the headset system. However, the iPhone powered by iOS 17 also has many new features worth looking forward to. What I am most looking forward to is the new Standby charging standby screen. Just as rumored, charging Apple Watch again brings a different interface – but smarter! Closer to the functions of a smart screen. Continue reading iOS 17 turns your iPhone into a smart screen when in standby! Although there are no direct traces of generative AI in iOS 17, there are still some “traces” of machine learning. Siri, which has been with everyone for a long time, has become a simpler and more intuitive user experience that no longer requires “Hey” to wake up and continue the conversation.

Through the evolution of language model recognition capabilities, the new generation of iOS has learned from the Android system’s real-time voicemail transcription, which is the function of directly converting speech to text on the screen (I don’t know if the Chinese support can be faster than Google’s roar), and it can also transcribe the voice messages seen in the message into text.

In terms of voice input, in addition to more intuitive voice-to-text input, it also brings a function that can provide inter-line preview input predictions directly on the text editing screen (you can quickly import the predicted text by pressing blank); automatic spelling correction also performs better.

The message section has also introduced filters and buttons to quickly jump to unread messages. You can also convert photos into stickers (Live Photos can also be used!), which can be easily pasted on messages. There is also a new check-in function, which can help you keep an eye on each other’s actual dynamics at any time, keep track of the progress, and avoid not noticing unexpected situations.

In terms of the most eye-catching horizontal charging screen, the new Standby charging standby mode will provide a horizontal interface similar to the Apple Watch when charging (it can turn into Apple Watch Ultra’s dark red theme for dark environments at night). But on the iPhone, you can change the theme of time by sliding the screen, and you can even watch the carousel of memory photos and new real-time updates, use gadgets, Siri, play music, etc.

The evolution related to the interface is in the incoming call screen. Customized functions such as lock screens can now be set for contacts; FaceTime can also leave video messages. iOS 17 will also add a stock diary app that can proactively provide daily dynamic suggestions worth recording.

Although it feels like the functions related to instant transcription are a bit like paying tribute to other systems, Apple has come up with a more enhanced experience for the AirDrop quick sharing function that has also been paid tribute by others. Including the new NameDrop feature that can quickly share contact information close to the device – the key point is that not only sharing between iPhones, but also iPhone to Apple Watch can be quickly shared close to each other.

In addition, the original AirDrop transfer function is now not restricted by the connection between devices and can support the resume transfer capability of the Internet. The Find My object-finding network part will also support the object sharing function in the next iOS 17.

iOS 17 will have a public beta version next month that can be previewed and tested earlier; the official version will not be available until later in the fall. I believe there will be a more detailed introduction to device support and other information later.
