As the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 40 series laptops are getting closer to launch, leaks of effective performance scores have appeared recently. The most concerning point for players is nothing more than the previous generation. Is the RTX 40 series laptops as much improved as the desktop version? The RTX 4060 seems to be okay, but the RTX 4070 seems a bit miserable. According to the 3DMark running score comparison shared by a Chinese notebook manufacturer earlier, it is only 11~15% higher than the RTX 3070.

The improvement is very small? Chinese laptop manufacturer says RTX 4070 laptop GPU performance is only 11%~15% faster than RTX 3070
Earlier, Chinese laptop manufacturer Mechrevo shared a 3DMark performance gap between RTX 4060 vs RTX 3060 and RTX 4070 vs RTX 3070, both in 3DMark TimeSpy and 3DMark Fire Strike.

As you can see, the improvement between RTX 4060 vs RTX 3060 looks pretty good. In 3DMark TimeSpy mode, RTX 4060 is 25% higher than the previous generation, and 3DMark Fire Strike reaches 30%.
However, the results of the RTX 4070 are not as high as expected. Compared with the previous generation RTX 3070, the 3DMark TimeSpy mode is 15% higher, and the 3DMark Fire Strike is only 11%, which means only 11%~15%:

As an aside, Mechrevo’s chart is quite poorly drawn. If you don’t look at the numbers and only look at the horizontal lines, it will make people mistakenly think that the performance of RTX 4070 and RTX 4060 has been greatly improved. It feels like they have doubled, but in fact it is not at all, especially the RTX 4070. It is obviously only 11%~15%, but the horizontal lines are also drawn so long. It is like directly applying RTX 4060 vs RTX 3060. Gap chart.
From Mechrevo laptop listing:

🟢4070 vs 3070 = +11% Improvement in Fire Strike pic.twitter.com/0LXbTMGEu4— Hassan Mujtaba (@hms1193) February 18, 2023
Since it is a notebook manufacturer, it seems to be quite trustworthy. However, one thing to note is that the TGP of the RTX 4070 should be 115W, but it is not clear for the RTX 3070. Strictly speaking, this should also be taken into consideration. Maybe the RTX 3070 needs ultra-high power consumption to achieve this result.
In terms of specifications, the RTX 4070 uses the AD106 GPU, which has 4,608 CUDA cores and 8GB of GDDR6 memory. Compared with the RTX 3070, there are fewer CUDA cores (the RTX 3070 has 5,120) and the memory is the same 8GB.
RTX 4060 uses AD107 GPU, has 3072 CUDA cores, and the memory configuration is the same as RTX 4070, so overall, the upgrade of RTX 4060 is indeed relatively large.
RTX 4070, RTX 4060 and RTX 4050 notebooks are expected to be launched on February 22. Some notebook manufacturers have already opened pre-orders. Those who are interested are advised to wait until sales begin. It is better to make a decision after more actual tests appear on the Internet.
A few days ago, a channel in China also leaked actual test videos of the RTX 4060 laptop graphics card.Anyone who is interested can click me to read:
