Google Announces Gemini Officially Arrives in Your Car

As Google phased Gemini into your life from various angles to become your default assistant, the original Google Assistant is hanging by a thread, and the few places where the voice assistant still exists are slowly but steadily being moved over to Gemini. Now, Gemini is landing in more places, including your car.

Google announces Gemini is officially coming to your car.

Google announced that Gemini, which is primarily an AI chatbot that also serves as an assistant for carrying out tasks on your phone, will now be coming to a variety of Android devices beyond just phones and tablets. Gemini is quietly making its way to everything from smartwatches and cars to TVs, and other Android devices.

The chatbot is rolling out as part of Wear OS 6, but it’s not yet clear whether it will be exclusive to this version of the operating system or also appear in previous OS versions. Gemini is replacing Google Assistant as the go-to assistant for smartwatch users. With the power of AI, you should be able to talk to it more naturally and fluidly, and it can handle a variety of requests. You can use it to set reminders, and directly on the watch you can use it to save your gym locker number or retrieve restaurant details mentioned in an email without having to take out your phone.

In the car, you can use it to find charging stations along the way, among other things. As with Wear OS, it is replacing the standard assistant experience in Android Auto. Among other features, Gemini will connect to messaging apps to summarize incoming messages and edit replies before sending, which is helpful when you’re driving and can’t really type. Gemini Live can also be used for long commutes, so you can talk to the AI like an old friend. It will also provide personalized news summaries (with the option to exclude specific topics like sports) or provide book summaries.

Finally, Gemini is also coming to Google TV, where it can serve as a practical assistant for discovering new shows or movies across streaming services, or you can make requests to it, such as very specific recommendations. Google TV can also be used as a smart home hub, but it’s currently unclear whether Gemini will integrate with that.

Gemini on all three of these platforms will be arriving in the coming months. Unlike the mobile app, the Google TV and Wear OS versions of Gemini seem more focused on assistance and app integration, while the Android Auto version fully supports Gemini Live, so you can talk to your car while driving.
