I don’t know if everyone is the same as the editor, but I really don’t understand why Instagram puts the shopping function in one of the five core bottom function columns of the entire app. It makes it easy for people to click on the product page and think they have accidentally been poisoned or something. Recently, Instagram suddenly realized that everything is focused on creators and removed the shopping function from the shortcut bar. What’s great is that the company’s CEO Adam Mosseri also made a special video mentioning this change.

Instagram suddenly realizes that everything is focused on creators and removes the shopping function from the shortcut bar
It is not too much to say that social services will need to seek income, but when Instagram, a social service that focuses on sharing video and photo content, chose to put the online shopping store function on the main function shortcut bar. It makes people a little confused. What is this app or social service mainly used to share or do?
Just, if this was a shopping app, most people would have no problem with it. But you’re Instagram eh, Instagram?

To some extent, this may be due to the fact that many well-known Internet celebrities and YouTubers currently believe that Instagram is no longer a platform where people are passionate about sharing their photo creations. These other alternative services to Vero were even recommended, possibly causing panic among the operators of this service. Therefore, Adam Mosseri, who always shoots videos to preview new features with users, recently announced through a video that the service features will be “stepped back”.

He announced that starting from February, Instagram’s navigation bar will be updated to remove the “Shopping” option from the original five functions (but the related shopping functions will still remain), and the “+” sticker/video function that often made people unable to find its location will be adjusted to the center of the current Reels page.
Naturally, the practical and declarative meanings of this are easy to understand. Basically, we hope to “put back” the creator to the most important position.

However, in recent years, Instagram has not only made it increasingly difficult for many users to interact with friends they know in terms of algorithms, it has even announced that it will start filling ads on personal pages. Although it was later announced that the algorithm sorting method would be loosened. But later, we saw that the functions developed by this platform, including Live Rooms and IGTV that paid tribute to Clubhouse, were quickly ended. Does it really make people feel that this large-scale service with 1.64 billion monthly active users seems to be unable to find innovative and useful functions for its creative users? In addition, I don’t want to maintain any unique traditions.

It must be said that as a free service, it is not an exaggeration to say that Instagram would want to find more sources of profit or new features to attract more users as much as possible. It’s just that some of the starting points no longer seem like the practices and functions that want to take care of users, regardless of whether it will really be the last straw to force the creator away. I always feel that I should really examine my original intention of creating this service so that I can have the opportunity to move forward.
That is to say, I personally feel that this adjustment of the shortcut column is in the right direction. Let’s see if they can launch innovative features suitable for Instagram loversOr come up with some weird function to hurt yourself in the foot.
