Recently, Google has arguably been continuously strengthening Gemini’s integration with other platforms and devices. According to Android Authority, they noticed this feature was in development as early as last month, when it could only be triggered through special methods. However, it has recently begun rolling out to users.
For users who have received it, now when you tap a place in Google Maps and summon Gemini, you’ll see an “Ask about place” option at the bottom. After tapping it, Google Maps will send the place’s URL to Gemini so it knows where the place you’re asking about is, and then it answers your question.

But if you’re asking about a specific community or an entire city, the current integration isn’t very good, and Gemini might switch to using Google Search instead, especially when dealing with more complex or ambiguous questions.
Ask about place is still in the process of rolling out gradually, so not every user can see this feature yet, especially in non-English-speaking countries. Even when the feature is available, it is not 100% functional yet, and sometimes Gemini is unable to load the location context from Google Maps.
Although free Gemini users can use it for now, it’s uncertain whether it will become limited to Gemini Advanced paid subscribers in the future.
Based on foreign media’s test reviews, Gemini doesn’t seem to be fully integrated with Google Maps yet, and the questions you can ask are limited, but I’m still quite optimistic about this feature.
With Gemini, in the future, if you want to know information about a location that isn’t listed on the Google Maps business page, Gemini can quickly search through other users’ reviews to find the answer. That would be really convenient—right now, you have to slowly scroll through everything yourself.
Even in the future, when checking restaurant reviews, besides Google Maps’ reviews, Gemini can also integrate Google search results to provide a more comprehensive and objective answer.
