Since LINE has become a commonly used social communication software for everyone, it has also become a target of fraud groups. As LINE continues to add functions such as mobile account settings, it is more convenient to use and has become a new fraud method. Therefore, LINE officials have explained fraud techniques such as “mobile account settings” and “auxiliary authentication” mechanisms.

Anyone who uses two-step verification should be familiar with the security settings that require you to receive and enter a verification code to log in to your account. LINE emphasizes that they have never provided any “account verification” or “auxiliary authentication” mechanism through unofficial channels, nor will they require you to fill in information such as “LINE account password” or “verification code” on unofficial platforms.

LINE’s official instructions also mention that if you forget your password on LINE, you can choose how to retrieve or reset your password based on three situations: “You can still log in to LINE on your mobile phone, but you can’t remember your LINE password”; “You bought a new phone and halfway through switching, you find you can’t remember your password”; “You forgot your password when you logged in to the computer version of LINE”. Don’t click on unofficial links to fill in various personal information easily.

As for the “mobile account settings” fraud, LINE emphasizes that as long as the mobile account settings are opened, the account will be moved to the hands of fraudsters. The account will be stolen and can no longer be used, and will be used to defraud other relatives and friends. Therefore, the settings have a warning “Do not change settings unless necessary.” Of course, let alone allowing strangers to open the settings.

Later, in response to the need for replacement of old mobile phones that can still be used, LINE also launched “Mobile Account with Mobile Barcode”. As long as this function is sufficient, there is no need to open “Mobile Account Settings” and change to “Mobile Account with Mobile Barcode”. However, you must still be careful not to provide barcode information to strangers to avoid account theft.

If you still have related questions, you can also seek help through “Visit FAQs”, “Contact via Email” and “LINE Helper”.

If you want to confirm fake news or fake websites, you can also use LINE messages to check the official website for confirmation.

Nowadays, there are endless fraud methods. Although some old-fashioned methods have made people wary, some fraud methods that use new functions of the program may be difficult to avoid. In short, be more vigilant when entering personal information, and be more careful when unfamiliar websites require authentication, so as to avoid falling into fraud traps.
