Apple confirms that the official version of iPadOS 16 will delay the release of “version 0.1”

Although for those who have tried the Public Beta version or even the Developer Beta version early, the news of the delay in the official iPadOS update is relatively indifferent. However, for users who still hope that their iPads can wait until a relatively stable version before updating, the previous news that iPadOS 16 with stage manager capabilities may be delayed has now been confirmed. If you are impatient, you may really want to consider upgrading to the public beta version that currently feels stable… (If you can’t wait~) Continue reading Apple confirms that the official version of iPadOS 16 will be delayed until the “0.1 version” debut.

Apple confirms that the official version of iPadOS 16 will delay the release of “version 0.1”

According to the update pace of Apple’s mobile devices, generally speaking, iPadOS, which is branched from iOS, will basically be released at the same point in time, that is, around September, along with the new iPhone and updated at the same time. It makes people feel that although they may not be able to get a new phone, they can use some of the latest system functions, which is a small blessing (maybe).

However, as iPadOS 16 begins to have more “Fusion” system functions with macOS, it seems that more complex interface functions still require more testing to meet Apple’s requirements for stable versions. Perhaps because of this, Apple has rarely chosen to update the “0.1” update, which in the past would have been regarded as a substantial update, and pushed iPadOS 16.1 to public beta/developers before the official version of “integer” was launched.

In view of such a rare system update rhythm, foreign media TechCrunch chose to ask the official for relevant explanations. Apple mentioned that this year is a particularly important year for iPadOS. Because of the features designed specifically for the iPad platform, the iPadOS system release schedule will be flexibly adjusted this time. Although it will also be released this fall, it will be released as a free update after iOS version 16.1.

Simply put, the official version of iPadOS should be delayed until the release of the iOS 16.1 update – as a rule, this version should also provide new features related to the new generation of iPhones, right?

The most eye-catching thing about the new generation of iPadOS is probably the on-screen scheduling function! Through this new feature, Apple’s iPad tablet series equipped with M1 SoC and the expected M2 SoC can also enjoy the same multi-window interface as the desktop system, thereby improving productivity and the efficiency and flexibility of multi-tasking operations.

Although for Mac, this feature may be more focused on specific work-after all, one screen can only open 4 windows. But for M1 iPad Pro and M1 iPad Air users, it unlocks the flexibility of using more windows (previously, you could generally use 3 windows at the same time – a split window plus a floating window). In addition, updated projects such as a dedicated weather app are new features that non-M1 SoC users can also enjoy.

Although this time Apple did not clearly mention the function of iPadOS, and the rare delay caused the official version to be released at the same time as iOS for the first time, it also did not mention when the 16.1 version of iOS / iPadOS will be released. However, in fact, in terms of the completion of the initial public beta version of iPadOS 16, it has indeed encountered many situations including external screens and other usage states, and it is not surprising that more development adjustments will be required.

Now it seems that even if the subsequent test version has become more stable, there may still be many detailed functions that need to be adjusted (my personal guess is that the Stage Manager grouping function is not yet ready – there is a “+” sign that can be called out, but it cannot be used). In short, if you see an iOS update but haven’t gotten the official version of iPadOS. Don’t be nervous, because this time it will be officially released until the iOS 16.1 test is stable.
