Among all current Google services, apps like Gmail and YouTube have added AI features over the past few months, but Google Maps has been largely overlooked, with the least integration with Gemini of all. That said, this isn’t necessarily a bad thing—navigation is crucial to people’s daily lives, and even a tiny mistake by AI could lead to serious consequences.

Gemini in Google Maps will be able to answer questions about places.
That said, Google did add Gemini to Maps last year, allowing users to search for places using natural language. Now, another much-needed Gemini integration for Google Maps appears to be on the way. According to foreign media Android Authority According to the report, app researcher AssembleDebug found that Google appears to be developing a Gemini conversation feature for Maps.
According to reports, the new feature was discovered in the Google app 16.4.35 beta. When you view a place on Google Maps, Gemini will be triggered, and a conversation card will appear that lets you ask Gemini questions directly about that specific place. When Google Maps is active in the background and you have this feature enabled, Gemini will be triggered, and you’ll see an “Ask about this place” button above the original Gemini field. Tapping it will automatically paste the place link into Gemini so you can immediately ask related questions.

Although this feature is not yet widely used, and those who discovered it had to manually enable it to test, once it is launched, you will be able to ask for quick reviews, restaurant recommendations, precautions, business hours, and even simple directions. The report notes that this feature cannot currently be used in cities, but that should change when it officially rolls out.
Since the feature that integrates Google Maps with Gemini for queries can already be manually enabled, the official rollout shouldn’t be too far off. But as everyone knows, testing doesn’t necessarily mean it will be released; Google is likely still exploring more possibilities for Gemini.
