Attention Pokémon GO players! Thank you for your attention. If you’re a loyal Pokemon GO player but have an older iOS device, you really need to pay attention these days. Because the official has announced that it will begin to adjust the minimum restrictions on the game’s supported devices in October. In short, a vote of iOS devices will be excluded. Attention players! Pokémon GO will no longer support iPhone 5s, iPhone 6 and devices prior to iOS 11

In fact, Niantic has already targeted Android devices beforeExcluded a wave of 32-bit Android phones and tablets, and now it is the turn of players who have installed the Apple system to face the situation that old iPhones may no longer be able to play “Pokémon GO”. According to the official announcement on Twitter, the October update of the game will officially end including Android 5 and iOS 10 / iOS 11 devices, and it was also mentioned that iPhone 5s and iPhone 6 will also no longer provide support. The official also stated that models other than those listed above will not be affected and can continue to be played and used.

The reason why iPhone 6 and iPhone 5s are mentioned in particular is probably because both of these phones can also support upgrading to iOS 12 (Apple support page). However, unlike Android phones that no longer support 32-bit devices, according to 9to5Mac, support for the iOS version in the implementation phase has been limited to 64-bit, and the basic requirement is iOS 10 or above. However, compared to directly using the system version number as the benchmark (this update should be marked as iOS 12 or above), it is a bit wonderful that Niantic has also added iPhone 5s and 6 that can be upgraded to iOS 12.

To a certain extent, it seems to mean that the game functions and effects that “Pokémon GO” will push in the new version will have higher demands on hardware. There is also speculation that this may be related to AR-related support to a certain extent – after all, the timing of the update is a bit sensitive, which makes people wonder whether it is related toUpcoming iPhone 12 Regarding the function, whether it is to cope with the AR performance of the new generation iOS system. In short, no matter what the answer is, we will know soon when the iPhone is released or when the new version of “Pokémon GO” is updated.

Official announcement

Dear Trainers:

In the upcoming Pokémon GO update in October, we will end support for Android 5, iOS 10, iOS 11, and iPhone 5s and iPhone 6. This change only affects trainers running Android 5, iOS 10, or iOS 11, and trainers using iPhone 5s or iPhone 6 devices. Trainers using other devices will not be affected and do not need to take any action.

If you are unsure whether your current device is subject to end of support, please contact the device manufacturer to confirm the details.

After version 0.189 is released in mid-October, trainers using these devices or operating systems will not be able to launch Pokémon GO or use in-game PokéCoins or items. If you want to continue playing Pokémon GO, consider upgrading your device. In addition, in order to successfully log in to the original account on the new device, please remember to keep your account number and password handy.

Please note: After the release of version 0.189, we will not be able to provide technical support for trainers who install and run Pokémon GO on the above devices or operating systems. We apologize for your understanding.

In an upcoming update to Pokémon GO in October, we will end support for Android 5, iOS 10, and iOS 11, as well as iPhone 5s and iPhone 6 devices. Trainers with devices not specifically listed here will not be affected and don’t need to take any action.
