Claude Cowork was previously only available on desktop, which meant people without computers couldn’t experience its full capabilities. The good news is that Anthropic recently announced Claude Cowork will be coming to web and mobile. This means you’ll be able to use Cowork even without a computer. And for desktop users, Claude will continue working in the background even when you’re away from your computer, with the completed results accessible on the web or your phone.

Claude Cowork arrives on web and mobile: assign tasks from your phone, run in the background without being tied to your computer

For those of you who aren’t familiar with what Claude Cowork is, here’s a quick overview.

Compared to Claude, Cowork is positioned closer to an AI agent tool rather than a simple chat interface. You can hand it a complete task—like organizing folders, creating presentations from meeting transcripts, extracting key points from emails and documents, or helping you build spreadsheets, reports, or drafts—and it’ll hand the finished work back to you for confirmation.

For example, you can say “Organize these customer files into a summary for tomorrow’s meeting,” “Create a four-page presentation based on this folder,” or “Convert the contracts into a renewal tracking table and flag the risks,” and Cowork will complete the task accordingly.

Anthropic earlierOfficial blog postAnnounced that Cowork will launch web and mobile Beta versions, allowing users to start a Cowork session from the claude.ai homepage; on mobile, users can access it from the sidebar in the Claude iOS or Android app.

With both web and mobile versions available, the biggest convenience for users is that “work goes where you go.” For example, you could instruct Claude on your office computer in the morning to organize some customer data. Then while commuting, you can check the progress on your phone. If there’s something that needs your judgment along the way, Claude will notify you through your phone. You can even reply with quick instructions during idle moments—like “make this section more formal,” “exclude these three customers first,” or “use last quarter’s data instead”—and Claude will continue working in the new direction.

Additionally, previously Cowork relied primarily on the desktop app, so if you stepped away from your computer, closed your laptop, or didn’t have the app running, you couldn’t continue working. With remote sessions, Claude’s work runs on Anthropic’s servers, and sessions and files are stored under your Claude account, so you can continue your current work from anywhere.

The article also mentions that Claude can continue running after closing the laptop, and scheduled tasks no longer require the device to stay online.

For example, a content creator can, on the desktop version, drop interview transcripts, product materials, and screenshot folders into Cowork and ask it to organize them into an article outline or presentation draft. Then, if they’re on the go and remember a section that needs supplementing, they can open the same session on their phone and send a quick request like “add competitive differentiation to the second paragraph,” letting Claude pick up where they left off. Finally, they can use the desktop version to handle the final formatting, image adjustments, and file organization.

However, the web and mobile versions aren’t meant to replace the desktop version—they’re designed to fill in the gaps where workflows are most likely to get interrupted. The desktop version is still best for deep work, like connecting to local folders, processing large numbers of documents, working alongside a browser, or tasks that require Claude to interact with your computer screen.

Cowork’s web and mobile Beta will gradually roll out over the next few weeks, starting with Max users, then expanding to more users including Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise.

Additionally, Anthropic has also aligned with this update, announcing that the Cowork 5-hour usage doubling promotion has been extended to August 5, 2026.
