Back in August 2014, Hideo Kojima and Konami released a playable teaser titled P.T. (Playable Teaser) on PS4 to promote the planned new Silent Hill title, but unfortunately, because this horror game starring Hollywood actor Norman Reedus was ultimately canceled after Hideo Kojima and Konami parted ways, P.T. was also pulled entirely. But now, this mysterious playable teaser, dormant for years, has officially made its way to PC thanks to the efforts of a modder. Unexpectedly, this crazy porting project also caught the attention of Hideo Kojima himself.

Although it consisted of only a fairly brief playable experience, P.T. still had an extremely profound impact on the entire game industry through its highly creative gameplay structure, even pioneering a brand-new “confined-space horror” genre, and for years fans have continually tried in various ways to bring P.T. back to life.
According to modder LoreanXavier’s explanation, this PC port of P.T. (has now been released 1.0.1 This version is not run through a PS4 emulator, nor is it rebuilt using a modern game engine such as Unreal Engine. Instead, it rebuilds the game logic in C++ and uses a custom-built Vulkan renderer, extracting levels, models, materials, sound effects, scripts, cutscenes, and other content directly from the original game files on the PS4 console. In other words, this port itself does not contain any game data copyrighted by Konami, so players must find their own way to obtain the game files for P.T. to play this PC port.

This version is a perfect 1:1 recreation of everything in the PS4 version of P.T., including that iconic house, as well as Lua scripts, loops, events, game progression, and the ending puzzle; it even preserves the voice recognition segment that was implemented at the time. At the same time, however, the creator has added many more modern features, such as completely breaking past the PS4’s hardware limitations in resolution and frame rate—even reaching 4K+60fps—while also supporting upscaling technologies like NVIDIA DLSS, AMD FSR, and Intel XeSS, and offering native-resolution DLAA and FSR Native AA options.
In addition, players with an RTX 40-series GPU or above can also choose to enable DLSS frame generation, and even ray tracing options and fine-grained performance tuning. Not only that, this version also adds extra content such as photo mode, free camera, third-person, New Game+, and mod support, and even experimental OpenXR VR support. If you want to experience the original PS4-quality visuals, this version also offers corresponding options. As for whether this project will ultimately be taken down after Konami intervenes, that remains to be seen.

However, aside from finally getting the chance to experience the legendary P.T. on PC, another extra development that has quite a few fans excited is that the person who was involved in developing this game at the time…Hideo KojimaHe himself also shared reports about this porting project on social media, meaning he is already aware of the project’s existence and has not taken an opposing stance.
The GOAT himself acknowledged my port. I am speechless. Seeing @Kojima_Hideo @HIDEO_KOJIMA_EN notice something I’ve poured so much time and passion into genuinely means the world to me. Thank you so much, and huge thanks to @GameRant for making this moment possible. ❤️ https://t.co/uMsak9P6Wv

Although he often spends a great deal of time on game development and conceptualization, Hideo Kojima has also long been active on social media, frequently sharing with fans various latest updates, his views on current topics such as movies, and game-related artwork created by fans.

For now, Hideo Kojima and his team are still busy developing their latest horror project, OD, and for years fans have repeatedly regarded it as a resurrection of the cancelled Silent Hill and P.T. However, to maintain the highest degree of “mystery,” Hideo Kojima currently has no plans to share more details about the game.
