In recent years, Google has continued to expand Gemini’s footprint, gradually extending it from browser services to desktop platforms. Earlier this year, Google launched a native macOS version of the Gemini app, while OpenAI had already launched dedicated ChatGPT apps for macOS and Windows. Meanwhile, Microsoft has also been actively developing a unified Copilot platform, planning to integrate the consumer Copilot and Microsoft 365 Copilot experiences into the Windows ecosystem. Now, Google has officially entered the Windows desktop generative AI arena, launching a Gemini app designed specifically for Windows.

Google announced today that Gemini has officially launched worldwide on Windows 10 and Windows 11 platforms, supporting x64 and ARM64 architecture devices, and is simultaneously available in all countries and regions that support Gemini services and languages.Click here to download Gemini for desktop)

Similar to the ChatGPT desktop version, Gemini can be launched quickly without leaving your current work window. By default, users only need to press Alt + Space to summon Gemini on top of the current window to ask questions, look up information, or perform various AI tasks. In addition, the shortcut can be customized in Settings, and users can also quickly open Gemini via the Windows taskbar or system tray.

Through the new native Windows app, Gemini users can hand off research, planning, and other complex multi-step tasks to Google’s autonomous AI assistant, Gemini Spark. Gemini can also integrate with services such as Gmail, Google Drive, Google Docs, and Google Calendar, helping users find information across email threads, synthesize document content, and improve work efficiency.

Google is bringing generative media features to the desktop version as well. Users can create AI images through Nano Banana and generate videos with Gemini Omni, all integrated into a single interface for a more complete creative experience.

However, Gemini for Windows still lags behind the macOS version in native integration features. Gemini for Mac already has screen content recognition, can create and edit content across apps via voice commands, and supports Gemini Spark accessing local folders to organize, analyze, and compile files. Google said it will continue adding more native desktop features to the Windows version in the future to further enhance the experience.

Additionally, when users sign in with the same Google account, Gemini’s conversation history and memory features stay synced across desktop, web, and mobile devices. Windows users can now download and try the new Gemini desktop app.
